Stay hydrated, San José!

Drink water or beverages without caffeine, sugar, or alcohol regularly throughout the day. Many fruits and veggies can also help keep you hydrated. If you drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, be sure to alternate them with water. If your doctor limits the amount you can drink or has you on water pills, ask them how much you should drink while the weather is hot.

With hot weather returning, it’s extremely important to check in on our family, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat impacts. Make sure they are drinking enough water and have access to an air-conditioned space. If they need an air-conditioned space, help drive them to the nearest public space, including Libraries or Cooling Centers.

Bring your pets indoor during this heat wave. Make sure they have enough cool water to keep them hydrated. Even our pets can suffer from heat stroke.

Pets can be vulnerable to heat stroke during the Extreme Heat Warning too. Never leave pets in a parked vehicle (even with the windows cracked), make sure they have fresh, cool water and try to walk them during the cooler parts of the day.
