At summer camp, the youth engage in exciting STEAM; science, technology, engineering, art, and math physical activities, AI coding, and nature skills. We thank our partners—UCI Education Department, Irvine Ranch Conservancy, and CalOptima—for their invaluable contributions. In coding class, the children built their own robots. CalOptima’s lessons emphasized healthy living through diet and exercise, while IRC taught them to care for garden plants, ensuring their survival during the summer heat.

At the Delhi Center we create leaders! We are proud of our teens who played a key role in helping promote a smoke-free city in order to keep our communities healthy. They educated community members of all ages on the benefits of a smoke-free lifestyle, thus contributing to a healthier environment for all. Our sincere thanks to our partner, America on Track, for supporting this important initiative.

With the education we have given our seniors on the harmful effects of second-hand smoking, we also sparked a desire in them to take action and make our city a healthier place to live. Throughout our partnership with America On Track, we hope to achieve our goal of creating a non-smoking city thus improving the overall health and well-being of our community. We are proud of our dedicated and proactive seniors who are now advocates for healthier lifestyles!

The poster serves as a powerful visual representation of the damaging consequences of smoking and serves as a call to action for individuals to take control of their health and quit smoking immediately.

This poster is a compelling reminder to quit smoking now, as waiting for the negative effects of smoking to stop could be too late. It highlights the harmful effects of smoking on the body and encourages viewers to take action and make positive changes for their health.

Throughout our partnership with America on Track, we have gained valuable knowledge on secondhand smoking. We have been able to deepen our understanding of the issue and work towards finding solutions to reduce its impact on our community.

Through interactive workshops, creative poster-making, and engaging discussions led by health professionals, kids learned valuable lessons on making positive lifestyle choices.

The camp also included community clean-up activities, which instilled a sense of pride and responsibility in the campers. They proudly display their "Resident for a Smoke-Free Santa Ana" stickers as a daily reminder to themselves and others of their commitment to a healthier community. This initiative not only educates youth about the risks of smoking but also empowers them to be active contributors to a thriving, smoke-free Santa Ana.

As we reflect on the impact of our Adventures in Nature with Teens (ANT) youth program, a Prop-64 Youth Community Access grant funded by the California Natural Resources Agency, we would like to thank all youth participants for their dedication, effort, and hard work as they accomplished all of their goals over the past two years. The program impacted 204 youth including 39 teens ages 14-19, and 165 school-aged children ages 6-13. The grant allowed our youth the opportunity to engage in one-day excursions like kayaking and hiking, field trips to the Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) to plant trees, workshops, leadership training, developing the Delhi Center’s Community Nursery Garden, and even overnight camping experiences such as our week-long trip to Yosemite!

Through immersive experiences in nature where they demonstrated a variety of outdoor skills learned during our camps, activities and workshops, youth in the Delhi Community have fostered a deeper appreciation for our environment, instilling lifelong values of conservation and stewardship.

Because of the impact made on our youth, the Delhi Center launched DELTA (Delhi Environmental Learning Teen Academy) thereby enhancing the ANT program by launching a multigenerational outdoor program which we anticipate beginning this fall, 2024.

In April, the Delhi Seniors benefited from a transformative three-week series of nutrition classes provided by CalFresh Healthy Living and Catholic Charities. Through this collaborative effort, seniors engaged in various educational sessions that covered essential topics such as reading nutrition labels, making healthier meal alternatives, and setting and achieving personal health goals.

The impact of these classes has been profound. Many participants have embraced positive changes in their daily lives. One senior shared that she now exercises for thirty minutes every day and has incorporated healthier food choices into her diet. Another senior has started practicing portion control, leading to a more balanced and mindful approach to eating.

This partnership has not only empowered our seniors with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives but has also highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and regular exercise. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the well-being of our community.

On this special day dedicated to Mothers, Delhi Center extends heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible moms who inspire us with their love and strength.
