Are you ready for Pesach? We had a fun-filled day preparing for Passover. The 4th- 6th-grade students cooked lunch for our Model Seder, and our Sh'vatim (tribes) sat together in multi-age groups so the older children could help the younger ones. Our Student Council hid an afikoman in each classroom, and we ended the day with a school-wide Human Board Game to follow the tasks with our Sh'vatim members. Our favorite was "build a human pyramid". Chag Sameach, Everyone!
Our students are practicing for their performance at CBI on May 12th and Celebrate Israel on May 19th with Eyal Golan's Am Yisrael Chai.

Our students' artwork at the OC Fair's Imaginology Art Show yielded incredible results despite the fierce competition; all grades received first place! These kids! Wow!! Congrats, everyone! The work will be displayed at Open House, and each child will get a ribbon. Congratulations to the third-grade students for winning Best in Class Overall! Thank you to our art teacher, Jamie Kough.
First and Sixth-grade buddies joined forces for their combined beach field trip to Pelican Point and Newport Beach Pier. They explored the tide pools, looked at local fish species, their habitat and behavior, discussed and appreciated the coastal ecosystem, and discussed sustainable fishing. Armed with bags to clean up the beach, metal detectors to find treasures, and a picnic lunch, the children and adults spent a beautiful day outdoors. The icing on the cake was a showing of dolphins and sea lions who wanted to put on a performance!
After researching various Ancient Greek figures, our 6th graders chose who should be on the Mt. Rushmore of famous Ancient Greeks. They researched, wrote biographies, and used charcoal to make their drawings. An interdisciplinary approach to learning solidifies knowledge and understanding and helps to make it transferrable to all aspects of life.
Flour, water, and an 18-minute timer are all it takes to make matzah. Oh, and some corny jokes! Thank you, Rabbi Sender, for bringing the Matzah Factory to IHDS. Are you ready for Pesach פסח?
Our talented first-grade students created beautiful artwork inspired by Cathy Weiss's work. Our amazing art teacher, Jamie Kough, led them through this beautiful process. Jewish Community Foundation of Orange County
Today, Dori Weinstein, Author visited IHDS and described her writing journey in ways that only a former teacher can! It starts with a wonderful idea, such as, "Someone should write chapter books with Jewish content," and continues with endless revisions and editing until you get the book published and enjoyed by many children.

Playtime is an important opportunity to engage with one another and practice problem-solving skills. Social-emotional learning at IHDS is as important as academics.
Daring students tasted the (washed) asparagus straight from the plant! It is important to understand where the food comes from. It is more delicious this way.
