Do you feel the absence? The absence of the models and systems that teach our kids (and us) how to work together…. How to use …. How to be kind through our acceptable differences….
To look beyond what works for me, what feels good to me and into truly seeing one another.

10 Children's Books to Talk to Your Kids About Palestine in 2023

Our children are never too little to learn about Palestine. Use these 10 children’s books as a starting point to educate the next generation on what we stand for.

As we continue to shake our heads in disbelief at the gross disinformation that mainstream media ceaselessly throws at us, one act of resistance comes to mind. And that is to empower and educate the next generation with facts. As a mother with Palestinian roots, my children must know their rich and varied heritage. I choose to teach them about it through the age-old tradition of simple yet compelling storytelling.

Below, you will find a list of books that honor Palestinian history, art, literature, and culinary heritage through beautiful stories suitable for children of all ages. Please encourage your friends and family to continue talking about Palestine.

How Can We Help the People of Palestine?

Our collective responsibility is to do whatever we can to support our Palestinian brothers and sisters through this horror. Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund is on the ground and is the primary humanitarian organization in Palestine, delivering crucial and life-saving medical relief and humanitarian aid. Please consider donating generously to help continue this vital work in times of emergency. 100% of sales goes to the

“But why is a preschool teacher posting about Palestine? That’s so political.”

Kindly see yourself out, because you’re most likely a “progressive” person who doesn’t say this when I speak out against every other injustice that affects marginalized and oppressed peoples.

The story of Palestine is the first injustice and struggle for liberation that I ever learned about. 🇵🇸 It’s what brought me to my work.

In the past, Palestinians and their allies have been silenced and threatened for speaking out about the colonization of their land.

In fact, until recently, people and governments would falsely call you antisemitic if you even said the name “Palestine”, and not “Palestinian territories.” This was intentionally meant to suppress solidarity and the truth about Palestine, while it also meant that antisemitism (a very present and dangerous form of bigotry against Jewish people) was misrepresented as criticizing Israel’s violent establishment and ethnic cleansing.

And with so much false information and deflection that continues to frame Palestine as a “two-sided, complicated, religious conflict”, I had to speak out and share my lifetime of knowledge and research on the Palestinian struggle for justice.

Please amplify Palestinian voices. Please listen to Jewish voices when they stand in solidarity and tell Israel to stop colonizing Palestine in the name of their religion. Israeli genocide does not represent Judaism. Justice for one is justice for all.

I invite you to continue reading Palestinian stories and speaking with your children about Palestine, the way you do with all forms of racism and oppression.

You are welcome to ask me questions to help you unlearn the anti-Palestinian and orientalist rhetoric we’ve all been taught. You are NOT welcome to attack me by falsely claiming my solidarity with Palestinians is antisemitic.

There is hope. There is light. Freedom begins with knowledge.

Mira!! Repost from

What if I told you that the "Day of the Dead" is a colonized holiday?

And the original "Day of the Dead" was not 1 or 2 days but 40 days and nights...

AND it wasn't in November, but in August & September to align with the cycles of nature on our continent? 🏵️

🐚🐚🐚💀🐚🐚🐚

In my opinion one of the most powerful lessons we can learn from the ancestral people of Anahuak (Mesoamerica), is that living aligned with the cycles of nature is the root of a holistically healthy society. And making time & space to honour all aspects of the cycles of life & death are crucial for our wholeness & integrity as living beings. So making time to honor death, grief & our ancestors, vital parts of our lives, was done collectively. As opposed to our society where we often are expected to grieve in silence & isolation...

This powerful tradition goes deep, so much deeer than the commercial holiday it has become, and has the potential to truly heal us on a collective level

If this calls to you and you would like to learn more about the ancestral perspectives of death & the practices that were done during these days, join us for this workshop next Sunday, in which we will learn:

▪️the native/indigenous origins of the Day of the Dead
▪️The differences between "Dia de Mu***os" & the ancestral veintenas
▪️a decolonized meaning of death in these ancient societies
▪️the significance of the month of Tlaxochimako & Xokotl Huetzi, the original two "Months of the Dead"
▪️Ways to honour your beloved who have passed
▪️explanations & practices for the Teteomeh

✨Reposting these slides from last year for those who would like to engage their kids around this holiday. I’m hoping to release a free Learning Guide tomorrow as well, but I’m being careful not to make promises I’m not sure I can keep. If it comes together, you’ll find out through my mailing list. Sign up on my website (link in bio).

I have had increasingly conflicting feelings over celebrating 4th of July in the last several years, but for some reason, even this year, I still struggle to reject it completely. These slides are a suggestion to get you started if you’re looking for ways to frame the day for your kids, but they are absolutely not a one size fits all. Adapt with specificity and depth depending on your child’s age and background knowledge. This is written to be friendly for the littlest kids, but could be expanded significantly for older kids. Take what’s useful, leave what’s not.

✨There’s also a post from last year on the blog about how I’ve grappled with engaging with my kids responsibly around this holiday. (Link in bio).

This is true for all of us at all ages, we never stop needing guidance or community.

Our semillas need this most of all as they navigate huge shifts and changes largely for the first time in their lives.

As we break cycles and pave new paths we have to keep thinking about the big picture and center actions, words and spaces that center love.

In this way we all learn, shift and grow.

Happy Compost Awareness Week!
We wanted to mention just a FEW of the many positive effects of recycling your organic matter and using compost to grow our food! And remember, when you recycle your scraps locally, like at Community Roots Farm, we are using less energy to move them it a larger facility (and you are supporting our efforts!) So, bring us your scraps!

Feliz Semana de Conciencia de Compost!
