Soil and groundwater samples will be studied to determine if installed groundwater drainage infrastructure is providing for the current needs of the development. A great tip to know around the holiday cooking season is that cooking oil can be reused or recycled! Most cooking oils can be filtered through a fine mesh strainer or even a coffee filter and kept for future use. Once it’s past its prime, it can be recycled at any of the Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment SAFE collection centers.

Leftover cooking oil from your Thanksgiving feast? Most cooking oil can be strained after cooling completely and reused safely a number of times or you can toss it in the trash. If you have a large amount of cooking oil that needs to be disposed of, Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment's SAFE Collection centers will accept it and recycle it! 👩‍🍳

During this windy, winter season, don’t forget that your yard waste, including all raked leaves, belong loosely in your green organics container 🍂🍁♻ For any leaves that make it to the street or gutter, the street sweeping service will increase to weekly rather than monthly beginning November 27, 2023 for a period of six weeks. Street sweeping takes place the day after trash service so please make sure trash carts, vehicles and other objects are removed from the street for effective sweeping.

To promote used oil recycling, City staff recently supplied College of the Canyons Automotive Technology Department with rags and other oil change supplies, to support their efforts in recycling used oil and used filters. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 58% of fugitive methane emissions from landfills comes from food waste, and methane gas is up to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. Today is – what are some of your favorites? 🍕🍗🍔🍟🥓 Don’t forget, once your meal is finished, those greasy food soiled paper items, like napkins and paper plates, should be bagged with your food waste and disposed of in your green organics container. Pizza boxes, even if they have a little grease, can be disposed of in your blue recycling container ♻ But if your pizza box is heavily soiled (cheese and toppings stuck to the box) just tear off that soiled part and put it in with food waste or into the garbage container.
