Lulu Carpenter's
Delicious coffee. Freshly roasted in Santa Cruz, California. Our Coffee
Great coffee starts with great farmers. We humbly embrace that tradition. Really well.
That’s why we buy the freshest, most delicious coffees in season from farms, co-ops, and mills around the world. There’s a lot that goes into growing delicious coffee: high elevation, quality varietals, selective harvesting, skillful milling, and more. We buy only the best of the best and usually in very small lots, to ensure that our green coffee is as fresh as it can be when it arrives at our ro

We love Dana and J. It breaks our hearts to share this. Godspeed, J. You are much loved, and you will be achingly missed. May your good works live on. All our love to the Nichols family ❤️
Pretty
New beginnings
An Avocado Cup with picked onions, capers and fennel. Gluten-free, vegan, low calorie goodness graciousness. Think of it as avocado toast without the toast. Just like Jack Nicholson would take it. And no, you can’t have it. I ate it. Both sides.
Oh look what our bakers sent us! A Black Sesame Mochi muffin. It’s as delicious in a sticky rice way as you’re gonna get for breakfast. Or lunch. Or dinner.
Seen supercharging at our Midtown store today. We thought our new refrigerator had arrived, on its own set of wheels.
Want to learn a language? Cross the Atlantic in a hot air balloon? Summer in Saint-Tropez? Ride the downhill run to Papeete in a 35 foot Ketenberg? Us too. But right now, we’ve got some positions to fill. So we’re hiring baristas, bakers and shift leads. Positions start at $17 an hour plus pretty decent tips, $20 plus for bakers, and up to $25 for shift leads. We don’t often hire, ‘cause our folks usually stick around for years. So if your parents are trying to get you to get a job and get out of the house, apply now. They’re gonna be really impressed. And with that kind of money, you can almost afford to live your dreams. Application link in bio!
We’re open on Mission, for your coffee and bageling pleasure. 6am-2pm, every freaking day of the week. Also, Miles says hi 🥯
We’re opening a new store on the Westside. It’s got a cool floor.
May 9th is Teacher Appreciation Day! The other 364 days of the year are also Teacher Appreciation Days, all of them, but tomorrow, we really, really mean it. So all teachers get a free drink of their choice at any of our stores. Come tell us where you teach, and your drink is on us!
Look at what we have coming online to our fleet for your delivery pleasure…
It’s expensive to run ones own delivery fleet. We don’t care. We’re not doing Uber and DoorDash. This is why.

Ethiopian delegates to the coronation of a king somewhere in Europe, sometime around the turn of the last century. We have a Halo Beriti Natural Ethiopia on offer these days, and these guys are totally that vim and totally that vibe. Come and try some. You’ll likely not look this cut afterwards, but we’re betting you’ll feel this good :)
We make a lot of vegan stuff, if you didn’t know. Pastries, burritos, stuff like that. There’s a delicious vegan breakfast sandwich coming next week, too. It’s like that around here.
I bought this hard-to-find Elektra 2 group in 2018 off eBay from a guy in Ukraine, who was at some pains to reassure me that it had been manufactured after 1986. After Chernobyl, in other words. At $1200 plus shipping, he thought he was pulling a fast one on me, even assuring me that a missing dispersion screen on one group was no big thing. I of course was fairly certain I knew what I was getting into. It turned out to be one of the happiest transactions I’ve made on the internet. For both of us, I’m guessing.
Anyways. I’m thinking of that scammy guy today. I hope he’s okay, and that he’s tossing a Molotov cocktail on my behalf at - as I heard a Ukrainian grandmother describe them on the evening cable news - those fu***ng Russian f***s.
These two were both born on this day in a long ago decade, when slide rules and abacuses (abaci?) were still a thing. Come wish them a happy birthday!
Joni Mitchell gets a lot of airtime in our cafes. She’s as coffeehouse as music gets. We’re not giving that up because of some two bit meathead podcaster peddling supplements or whatever on a streaming service. We’re pleased to let you know we’ve made a business decision with regard to said streaming service, and arranged to switch providers, the better to continue playing her music for your (and our own) listening pleasure.
Sometimes, it’s easier to just let our bakers tell you the story themselves.
You know what this town needs? It needs another freaking coffeeshop. So here you go.
We’re building a little kiosk in the Atrium between the County Building here in Santa Cruz, and the Courthouse. So next time you’re arguing with the building department about easements and geological surveys on your property, reporting for jury duty, or conversely, being hauled up before the judge to face the awful majesty of justice, a delicious latte and a nice egg and bacon breakfast sandwich with sharp cheddar and sriracha aioli can be your reward. We’ll be open soon. And yes, that’s some world class coffee equipment you’re looking at. We’re not messing around.
And that’s how you want to start a Sunday morning
You may have heard that “everyone” is out of Oatly. That’s not wholly accurate. We’re not, and we’re not going to be. We know people who know people.
Yummy, mummy! Hot cross buns! We’ll have these at the stores for you tomorrow. Happy Easter :)
Need some ideas on how to enjoy Lulu Carpenters coffee on a Sunday morning? Here’s one. Hop in the old Datsun pickup with the four speed on the column, fire up some , and wind a couple of hours away through the twisty backroads of the Santa Cruz mountains. Works every time.
We’re the kinda coffee joint that, in season, finds a deserving Girl Scout Troop - like Troop 6000 in NYC, serving kids in the shelter system - buys 30 boxes of cookies from them, and puts them out at our stores, from which to help yourself, free. We know you think you’re full up with Girl Scout cookies, but you’re not. Trust us. Come have some more free cookies. You know you want to.
