Happy Father’s Day - as this post covers many iterations of what this day may mean to everyone today. For me, it’s mixed with celebrating the father of my children AND grieving the premature death of my own father. No matter your circumstances I hope it’s a day of compassion and gentleness for yourself. 🙏🏼✨🤍✨🤍✨
Each year Black people have historically been, and continue to be underrepresented, misrepresented or invisible in children’s literature. Black representation has comprised of 3% of all children’s books published in 2014 and remained at that level or lower in decades prior. All kids should know Black history and Black contributions, but equally as important are stories of Black kids just being: experiencing joy, being loved and existing in their full humanity. Children’s books can be one starting point for doing this, and should be combined with ongoing education, strategies, and experiences supporting Blackness and Black people. Being intentional about centering and supporting empowering narratives of Black people helps to shape understanding and appreciation about Blackness for all children. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love. For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone. Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
While everyone has the right to peacefully protest, I agree tear gas should be banned as a violation of human rights, especially given the toxicity of the substance. Repost from READ the post from and (reporter ) Please protect yourself and your pregnancies. @ Dr. Ivy Margulies Angels Born Still

YESTERDAY!! The Largest Civil Rights Movement in History Happened!!
Today, May 5th, is International Bereaved Mother’s Day...as with any day that highlights something we are or consider part of our identities - these days do not define the whole picture. While it is of course nice to be acknowledged in a day set aside to make grief more socially acceptable- for ONE day - being a bereaved mother or father is something felt EVERYDAY. Please take some time everyday to take care of yourself and know the more you break the silence of pregnancy loss, miscarriage, terminations for any reason, stillbirth and infant and child death - we support and help so many suffering in silence. Please reach out to anyone you know today and say their baby’s name or conversely if you are the bereaved parent, please do something such as light a candle, or call a friend and acknowledge the memory or brief life of your pregnancy/baby...whatever would feel supportive. You are not alone - with community you will find your new normal and a way to find joy in most of your day again. Sending love to all the bereaved mothers and fathers in the world tonight. ✨🙏🦋💛

On episode 13 of Shattered Conception my guest is Marcella Johnson, founder of the non-profit organization, The Comfort Cub. The mission of The Comfort Cub is to bring comfort to anyone experiencing a broken heart as a result of a significant death, loss or trauma. We have all had our heart broken or know someone that has. Is there actual medical and physiological effects of having a broken heart or is it just a figure of speech? It turns out, this is a real “syndrome“. Empty Arms Syndrome is a very real feeling numerous women have after they go home without their baby or babies. It’s called Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, and it is a condition where your heart muscle becomes suddenly weakened. It’s literally the manifestation of a broken heart. The left ventricle, one of the hearts chambers, gets larger and changes shape because of the overworked nervous system. While the initial intent of The Comfort Cub was for infant death, evidence shows it provides profound relief for any traumatic event. This includes having to leave the hospital without your baby or while your baby is still in the NICU, the loss of a spouse, parent, or pet. Due to the deep touch pressure, holding The Comfort Cub triggers the brain to release the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, which causes the body to relax and feel comforted. The Comfort Cub has been scientifically proven to decrease heaviness in the chest and the aching in the arms, as well as other physical manifestations of a devastating and distressing death or loss.

My friend Lori Bregman has officially launched her second book, Mamaste!! I have known Lori for almost 15 years and have watched her business grow into the amazing success it is today. She and I taught “Mommy and Me” at the Pump Station - 13 years ago. I am beyond excited for her and grateful she is bringing her expertise, wisdom and joy into the birthing world, one pregnancy at a time. Lori describes her second book: Moms today face a constant stream of information, choices, activities, and pressures like never before. You’re bombarded with ads and social media feeds, mommy chat rooms and lengthy blog posts on how to pack the perfect lunch, preschool rules, and complicated schedules. And that’s not even including the seemingly endless daily tasks (naps, meals, diaper changes, colic, messes, LOADS OF LAUNDRY, tantrums, sick days, sleep training, potty training) of actually taking care of your kids! As a doula, I help moms-to-be make the right choices and advocate for themselves throughout their pregnancies. As a life/wellness coach, I help moms use all five expressions (found in this book) to work toward deeper self-awareness and navigate their own set of choices. The mom world is hard enough! in order to have peace in your world, you must first find peace within. Let’s make a shift away from fear and judgment. Let’s seek harmony both with others and within. If not for our own health and sanity, let’s agree to come together for our kids. I’ve been incredibly privileged to witness the magic of birth many, many times, and then see those beautiful babies grow and blossom into extraordinary individuals. As I continue to work with clients and friends as they transition into motherhood, I’ve come to understand how much children really do watch, mimic, and become. In today’s world, where hate runs rampant and has the power to separate and divide us all, we must seek love and kindness as our bridge over the madness. It’s up to us, as mothers, aunties, friends, and women, to be the role models for our children and give them a path to greatness for the future, because the future is in their hands. Heres to more women supporting women! @ Dr. Ivy Margulies Angels Born Still

Diane Weiss, L.Ac. will be providing acupuncture to all the women attending The Angels Born Still self care bereavement day retreat in Temescal Canyon in the Pacific Palisades. Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture’s safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture is now covered by many insurance policies and is used most to relieve pain, improve sleep, digestive function, improve fertility, treat infertility, nausea, migraine headache, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and improve a sense of well-being. And so much more... Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on an ancient philosophy that describes the universe, and the body, in terms of two opposing forces: yin and yang. When these forces are in balance, the body is healthy. Energy, called "qi" (pronounced "chee") flows along specific pathways, called meridians, throughout the body. This constant flow of energy keeps the yin and yang forces balanced. However, if the flow of energy gets blocked, like water getting stuck behind a dam, the disruption can lead to pain, lack of function, or illness. Acupuncture therapy can release blocked qi in the body and stimulate function, evoking the body’s natural healing response through various physiological systems. Modern research has demonstrated acupuncture’s effects on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system. I am excited for Diane to be giving, and possibly introducing, acupuncture at the day retreat.

New Moon in Aries today - A time for new beginnings which urges us to take a leap of faith on a new adventure that offers excitement and new growth! Aries evokes The energy of our inner warrior so as we approach this new moon it is a great time to confront our fears and to reclaim our personal power. With the fiery planet, Mars, influencing us this new moon we may witness the shadow side of Aries within ourselves and those closest to us. This may include childish behavior, such as being defensive and argumentative, seeing others as competitors rather than allies, being emotionally demanding without regard for the needs of others, being irritable and lacking patience. The archetype of Aries, the warrior is the masculine aspect who governs our sacral chakra. So this can exacerbate feelings of emotional overwhelm fueled by fear we won’t get our needs met. This can create conflict with others if we are unable to name our feelings and communicate our needs clearly and calmly. So be sure to take time out to connect with yourself, reflect on your needs, understand what you are feeling, and then you will be less likely to experience conflict or drama with others. Trust your gut feeling this New Moon and you won’t go wrong! You can expect to relationships with others to deep in this new moon and you will become even more charitable and giving.
Excited to announce that I will be facilitating a women’s Bereavement Self Care Day in Temescal Canyon Gateway Park in the Pacific Palisades on Saturday April 27th from 10am-5:30pm...please contact me for further details and to register for a day to nurture your mind, body and spirit.
