Meet one of our esteemed oral surgeons, Dr. Vajda!

Dr. Vajda was born and raised in Northwest Indiana in a small suburb of Chicago. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Indiana University in 2011. He then continued his education at Indiana University School of Dentistry where he was President of his class. After receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with the highest distinction, he began his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles during which he received his Medical Degree and completed a General Surgical Internship.

Dr. Vajda is now in private practice in Santa Monica and a member of the Medical Staff at UCLA where he takes facial trauma and infection calls. He is also on the teaching faculty at UCLA School of Dentistry in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and maintains membership in several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Vajda is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with special interest and expertise in orthognathic surgery. Having lived in the west Los Angeles area for the past 6 years, he is looking forward to serving within the local community.

Dr. Vajda is married to Lauren who a resident in anesthesiology at UCLA. In his free time, Dr. Vajda enjoys working out, Chicago sports, dining, and traveling throughout the world.

What is Orthognathic Surgery?

This type of oral surgery corrects conditions of the jaw and face related to structure, growth, sleep apnea, TMJ disorders, and malocclusion problems owing to skeletal disharmonies. It often involves collaboration between orthodontists and oral surgeons.

Meet Doctor Richard Ting!

Dr. Ting, a Southern California native, attended college at the University of California, San Diego earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Physiology in 1999. He was accepted to dental school at the University of Southern California graduating with honors in 2003. After receiving his doctorate in dentistry, he continued his education at the University of California, Los Angeles entering residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. During his time at UCLA, he earned his medical degree in 2006 and completed a 1 year internship in general surgery.

Dr. Ting is an active member of the medical staff at Saint John’s Health Center. He also maintains membership in several professional organizations including American Medical Association, and Academy of Osseointegration. Dr. Ting is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Injuries to the face, by their very nature, impart a high degree of emotional, as well as physical trauma to patients. It’s important to see a professional if any trauma to the face occur, especially with broken teeth.

A tooth that has been knocked out can be saved if fast action is taken. Carefully put the tooth in some milk or saliva to keep the tooth moist. Water should only be used if nothing else is available. Don’t try and clean it, leave it exactly how it is and then get to the dentist as quickly as possible.

If the tooth or bone aren’t damaged, your dentist will be able to put the tooth back into place and hold it in with a soft wire splint. The root should then re-attach itself to the bone within a month or so and then the splint can be removed!
