November is Homelessness Awareness Month and this year we are shining a light on the crucial connection between domestic violence and homelessness. It's vital to understand that many individuals facing homelessness are often survivors of abuse, with an alarming statistic revealing that 80% of women with children in these situations have experienced domestic violence.
Safe shelters like the Empowerment, Healing, and Wellness Center, play a critical role in providing refuge and support for these survivors, allowing them to rebuild their lives in a secure environment. Throughout this month, we encourage everyone to learn more about this issue, advocate for necessary resources, and support organizations dedicated to helping those in need.
All donations made during November will directly support our safe shelter for survivors and their families.
Our first ever trunk-or-treat was a huge success thanks CDPHP, Schenectady Police Department, and our 1888 Collective Members 🧡 And a big shout out to Nancy, Rebecca, Deb, and the ELC team for putting this event together for the ELC and kiddos at shelter. Such a special and fun way to kick off the night! Which trunk is your favorite?!
May this Festival of Lights bring joy, prosperity, and peace to you and your loved ones. YWCA NENY wishes you a joyful and vibrant Diwali!
What a fantastic way to kick off Halloween and wrap up Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Heather Lasky of Brunette Black & White hosted her 7th Annual EveryBODY event this summer, where she and her network raised $5,414 to support our domestic violence shelter.
Thanks to her generosity, we exceeded our $10,000 goal, raising over $14,000 to support our Empowerment, Healing, and Wellness Center for survivors this month! A heartfelt thank you to Heather, her team, and everyone who donated, attended events, and supported YWCA this month 💜
And YES that is our CEO, Kim Siciliano. She did in fact come to the office this morning with not one but TWO Halloween costumes!🎃
We at YWCA NENY wish you all a very safe and happy Halloween!!

What an incredible way to start off Tuesday ✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for Morning Momentum! We were reminded of our strengths and gained valuable insights from this morning’s speakers. Funeral Director and Author Brittany Furman encouraged us to be patient with ourselves and seek out light. Former YW Resident Kim Cherry urged us to stay true to ourselves and always give back. Owner and Author of Own Your Awesome, Miranda VonFricken - Mastermind Coach, emphasized that “it’s not about the flash, it’s about the foundation,” and highlighted the importance of making bold decisions and sharing them with others.
A huge thank you to our inspiring speakers and our host, Deshanna Wiggins, who set a powerful tone for the morning and motivated us to connect.
Thanks once again to all our sponsors, and to Nelly's Treats, Kema's, and Tami Flanders for providing breakfast!
We are so grateful to have opportunities to spend time in rooms with such remarkable people.
💜You are a SURVIVOR💜
We believe in the power of language and its impact on healing. Calling individuals "survivors" emphasizes their stength and resilience in overcoming adversity, instead of viewing them solely as a victim of traumatic events. "Victim" focuses on violence endured, overshadowing their incredible journeys.
You are strong. You deserve to feel safe. You deserve healthy relationships.
Today is your last chance to register for our Morning Momentum Empowerment Breakfast at the Edison Club. You can still reserve a seat a ywca-neny.org/breakfast
We have a last-minute update to tomorrow's program! Unfortunately, the Seven Dancers Coalition team is no longer able to join us, but we hope to work with them again soon!

We can't wait to see you tomorrow!

It's crucial to have open conversations with your teens about the different forms of abuse they might encounter, including economic abuse. This type of abuse can take many forms, like education and employment sabotage and financial control. More than half of teens in relationships have experienced one or more types of financial/economic abuse.
By educating your teens about economic abuse, you empower them to recognize unhealthy dynamics in their relationships and encourage healthy financial practices.
For more information and resources to help you help the teens in your life, visit endteeneconomicabuse.org.
