Join A Band Camp 2024 is a wrap!
I barely remember a time when collaborating and sharing music with others hasn't been a major part of my life. Getting the opportunity to share what I have learned with others, promoting vulnerability through art, and helping my community share the things they care about in a really cool way has been such an awesome experience. I love that this community keeps growing and growing. Can't wait to do it again next year!

Premiere: Warren Dunes' "Freestyle Day Spa" Is a Sunny & Spirited Reminder That "There's Plenty of Time Left" - Atwood Magazine Seattle trio Warren Dunes remind us that there's plenty of time left in "Freestyle Day Spa," a soothing, psych-soaked, beach rock reverie off their second album 'Aquamarine' that comes to life with a joie de vivre attitude and a smoldering sound.

I've been wanting to make an animated video for so long. The "anything is possible" element of this art form has always excited to me and touched my soul in a special way. Can't wait for you to see and hear "Inspiration Blues!"
Shout out to Strymon for making the coolest pedals ever. I love my Big Sky!
MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Warren Dunes' "Inspiration Blues" Video - Magnet Magazine Anyone who’s experienced writer’s block can tell you it’s no fun. And Warren Dunes’ Julia Massey has seen her share of creative dry spells. “I wrote ‘Inspiration Blues’ because I was stuck in one of the inevitable storms of the artist’s journey,” says the leader of the exceedingly ...
NEW MUSIC VIDEO!!!!
When I first started playing music, I thought it was just about turning feelings into musical notes. That has always been at the core of my love, and has fueled me for basically my whole life.
I have also had the opportunity to use music to find so many other ways to express myself that I never dreamed of, and shooting, directing, and editing music videos has been such a fun art form to learn and explore. (shout out to two of my heroes Robb Benson and Darla Rae Barry Benson for all of your inspiration)
This is my fourth music video, and I couldn't be prouder. Forever grateful to Julia Massey for sharing her incredible talents, and Jeff Larson for helping make my vision come to life. This was A BLAST TO MAKE!
I hope you all like it!
*Video Premiere* Warren Dunes – “Take the Train” Photo By: Brady Harvey I was turned onto Warren Dunes back in 2021. That was a weird time in all of our lives as we tried to crawl our way out of the pandemic and what it had done to the music indu…
Sooooo excited to be releasing Warren Dunes new record baby AQUAMARINE at Tractor Tavern on May 11th!
Be sure to grab those tickets early! (link in comments)This is going to be such an amazing night, and I can't wait to unveil the full line up in the coming weeks!
I remember my first time playing the Tractor in 2012 with my band TJR. We barely had any shows under our belt and we were over the moon that this amazing venue gave us a chance on a Tuesday to play for all of our friends.
Since then, I have had so many incredible experiences there seeing some of my favorite artists, playing some of my favorite shows, spilling an entire order of pho on the floor during warm ups. I've loved every minute of it, and I couldn't be more excited to share these new songs with you at one of my favorite all time venues in my home neighborhood.
I really look forward to seeing all of you for this really special night! 🤘

I had to share this pic of my former student Loren Bogaard crushing it with his band Dear John's final show. I am so happy to see him living out his dreams after all the hard work he has put in!
Congrats to my student Darby on his first ever public performance on guitar last week! Thanks to the Skylark West Seattle for creating such a welcoming environment on Wednesday nights for new artists to build their chops!
When my students Scarlett and William started taking lessons with me, I don't think either of them could touch the floor when they sat down. Now they are performing together as two new budding musicians in Seattle's awesome music scene. I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of both of these artists in the next few years! Congrats to both of them on their first open mic at Skylark West Seattle last week!
I'm feeling really proud of my students William and Jacob. They performed at their first open mic last week at Skylark West Seattle and they crushed it! Here's a video of the boys playing a cover of The Strokes Reptilia with their house band that includes their Mom Dagmar on bass and friend Josh on vocals. You know I love a good family band!
The only thing better than eating an Un Bien sandwich is eating an Un Bien sandwich while celebrating 10 years of guitar lessons with this awesome person! Congrats to my student Marnie Cannon on all she has accomplished. It's been such an honor being your teacher 🙌
Last week was a dream come true! My first summer camp couldn't have gone any better and having all my students over for a bbq after three years of not seeing each other was the best ever! Thank you to my family and everyone else who made "Join A Band Camp" 2022 possible, and to all the campers for being so amazing! I can't wait for the next one!
I’m so excited for my first summer camp starting this Friday! Helping people learn how to play with others and perform has been a dream of mine for a while and I can’t wait to finally make it happen. Also, these GUEST SPEAKERS are going to be AMAZING!!!

A huge congrats to my student Marnie on being the first person to complete the JCM - Beginner - Level 2 curriculum. We have been on this guitar journey for many years, and she has stuck with it through injuries, vacations, job changes, you name it. She is one of the hardest workers I know, and I am so proud of this shredder and all she has accomplished!
Just a heads up, she even has a gigging band called Scapegrace that wrote one of my favorite songs of all time called Monkey Butt! Can't wait for the next show!
I have done some rough estimates, and at some point this year I will have taught over 300 students and will teach my 10,000th private music lesson. I just wanted to say thank you to all of the people who have put their trust in me for their music education. It continues to be one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done, and I am so grateful for the past 11 years. I feel just as excited about teaching as I did the day I started. Here's to 10,000 more!
Congrats to my student Isabelle on getting her level 1 guitar certificate, and Beth for getting her level 1 ukulele certificate.
I'm so inspired by their hard work and dedication!
Congrats to my student Melissa on getting her level 1 certificate! Fantastic accomplishment!
In the spirit of bringing a light on my students' artistic endeavors my student Patti, who is also a writer, was recently featured on The Moth Radio Hour for her story about fear. What a cool honor!
I'm so proud of her willingness to create and share with the world! Enjoy!

Another original composition from one of my songwriting students. This piece is by Jess, A timely reminder
of our most powerful tool in a democracy! Enjoy!
I wrote this song with my student William. William wrote the guitar parts, lyrics, and arrangement, and I added a vocal melody. Enjoy this brief window into the life of his "chicken, grass, dog food" eating, tennis ball loving friend, Chewy!
Congrats to my student Marnie on getting her level 1 certificate!
I've started writing Etudes to help my students practice their scales, arpeggios, and licks we are working on in context. I think I found a new favorite thing to do!
Here is a Beatles cover I am especially fond of at the moment. I hope it brings you all some joy!
It's going to be a busy fall. Can't wait!
Congratulations to my student Scarlett on her wonderful performance as Brooke Wyndham in Seattle Performers rendition of Legally Blonde The Musical this past week!
