How often do you remember to play? I haven't been painting much this year, but when I've given myself permission to just dabble with no expectation of a final product to monetize, I'm reminded why I even started down this path in the first place. ββββββββββββββββββIf it's been a while, a week, a month, a year, a lifetime - then here is your invitation: go play. Follow your curiosity, get silly, get messy, just follow that impulse and revel in the mystery and possibility of it all.
Hiii, I'm still alive! Just been busy starting a gallery and event space the past 6+ months. Can y'all believe it's already September?ββββββββββββββββββSome things I've learned along the way:
β’ There is no such thing as failure, only learning. The gallery I was trying to start a year ago wasn't the right fit, and as soon as I let go of it, happened.
β’ The more specific I am about what I am dreaming of, the quicker and more accurately does the world around me shift to reflect it.
β’ I literally cannot do any of this without help. And the more comfortable I get with asking and receiving help, the more the dream grows to encompass all that we are dreaming of collectively.
Any of this resonate with you? Would love to hear your experiences!

Last show this weekend until I'm off to Europe on Monday. Gosh, look at these windows! I'm going to miss this space while I'm away, but so grateful for all that this space has been for me. Excited to be back in September, full of inspiration for a new body of work!
So often as a creator there's this pressure to perfect and curate and essentially control what is seen/received/perceived. There's this rush towards the finish line, when sometimes it's okay to let there be white space, let there be breathing room, room for possibility, room for the next step, room for (gasp!) error even.
I've been playing with this inspired series since last October and rather than becoming more and more "masterful", I'm finding the desire to leave more and more blank. I had found a recipe that worked, and then I got bored. Not that I'm pushing the edge of just how "unfinished" I can bear to leave these paintings, I'm on the edge of my seat and giddy, and madly madly curious. So if you're ever finding yourself in a similar position, do something different. No duh, Rya! And then try it another way, and then another way π
Curious how these unfinished pieces are going to turn out? Then get ready for an idyllic summer day trip to the beautiful island of Whidbey for the inaugural art getaway July 9th and 10th. It's a stunning location just a stone's throw from the water with charming shops, galleries, and eateries galore.
See you soon!
Xx,
Rya
