Lars Gesing Fine Art Nature Images

Hi, I'm Lars! I use my camera to turn meditative moments in nature into beautiful art for your empty walls.

I'd love to see you in my Seattle gallery or at www.larsgesingfineart.com.

The moment Buck saw THE FORTUITOUS MOMENT, he was brought back to all those Fourth of July Holiday weekends he spent with his family along the Oregon Coast, just south of the town of Cannon Beach, where this piece was photographed.

He knew he had found a new artwork to add to the collection of fine art photographs the couple already own and proudly display in their West Seattle home.

"The striking colors and contrasts go beautifully with a series of Northern Lights prints we have from around the world," Buck later told me.

I worked with the couple to help them decide on the finish for their 20x40" piece, ultimately agreeing on my signature TruLife acrylic unframed float finish — much to Buck's delight, once they held the final piece in their hands: "The acrylic adds a depth and richness even above and beyond our existing Aurora prints that are printed on metal."

It was a true pleasure helping this wonderful couple eternalize the memories that still carry them to the coast and bring their happy place home.

Where does your mind wander when you let it?

Seeking out our happy places is a spiritual journey...

This is MANA — THE LIFEBLOOD.

Almost all cultures in the world have a term for spiritual energy… in China, it’s the “chi”. In India, it’s “prana”. And in Hawaii, it’s mana. It’s the belief that energy flows through all living things — and that it can be gained (or lost) with every action you take.

According to ancient Hawaiian wisdom, to cultivate good mana and fill up your spiritual bank, you’ll want to live a pono — a balanced — life, fulfill your kuleana — your calling, and visit often the places that are most meaningful to you. Here’s to hoping that this piece takes you to your happy place at the ocean’s edge. I know that’s where my mana flows most freely.

This is ALOHA NUI LOA — ALL OF MY LOVE.

The great American novelist Jack London maybe put it best: “With Hawaii, it seems always to be love at first sight.” Tell me of someone who has had the good fortune to step into the Pacific paradise that is Kauai’s Hanalei Bay who has not echoed that exact sentiment. I know I have.

But what is it about this place that elevates it so far above a collection of stunning vistas? Let’s go back to Jack London: “In what other land save this one is the commonest form of greeting not ‘Good Day,’ nor “How Ye Do’, but ‘Love’? That greeting is ‘Aloha’ — love, love you, my love to you.” Yes, love is the path to happiness, and I am grateful it led me here. Aloha nui loa, Hanalei Bay — I love you with all of my heart.

This is HUIKALA — FORGIVENESS

Along Kauai’s sparkling shores, waves wash away the footprints of humanity, and with it all sense of time and urgency. The short-livedness of our imprints is a good reminder to prioritize the Hawaiian value of huikala — forgiveness. It’s the ancient philosophy of reclaiming emotional and mental freedom by letting go of the things that cause stress, pain, guilt and anger. When we achieve that freedom, the thought goes, aloha — love — can flow more freely, just like the waves rolling gently ashore. Huikala leads us straight to a place where inner peace reigns supreme — a place that, at least in my mind, looks a whole lot like Kauai’s Tunnels Beach.

This is ALOHA AKU, ALOHA MAI — BE THE LIGHT.

There is a popular Hawaiian saying: aloha aku, aloha mai — which means, “aloha given, aloha returned”. It reflects the deep-seeded belief that aloha — love — is a circular commodity, it needs to be replenished. If one only gives, and one just receives, aloha will cease to exist. That thinking extends to our relationship with the land. The natural healer Nāpua Harbottle explains it this way: “Hawaiians believe that whatever kind of energy you generate, that’s what’s going into the land. The key is to learn how to generate positive energy within yourself.” It’s a lesson worth remembering often: Learn how to create positive energy — be the light —, and watch the world around you blossom. Aloha.

Where would you like me to photograph next? 📸 I'm making a list! 📜

Ryan was one of the first people to ever set foot in my West Seattle gallery.

And the moment he walked in, he knew he had found the piece of art for his office he had been looking for for such a long time.

Not just any piece of art to fill a wall, though... no... something inspiring... something uplifting... a pop of color that would make the long days a little less taxing on the mind... An escape.

GUARDIAN ANGEL proved to be all that and then some for Ryan, who has been back in the gallery multiple times since and quickly had his eye on some other pieces for other spots around the house.

"I couldn’t be happier with my purchase", Ryan later wrote from his computer in an office that no longer felt sterile and uninspiring.

Which wall in your home could use a touch of nature art?

This is FLORAL FANTASY (click to see the full image).

The best times in life are those when my all-too-often tortured mind finds it impossible to be cynical about anything. This was one of those glorious moments when my soul roamed freely, in awe of this stunning ritual of springtime renewal in the Pacific Northwest. Walking amid countless rows of the most colorful tulips, I felt like I was floating above all which up until a moment ago had tried to drag me down. Right then, the fantasy of a truly quiet mind at ease became a joyful reality.

A night I’ve been dreaming of my whole life.

A night I’ll never forget.

05/09/2024

This is EVERLASTING COAST.

The Southern Oregon Coast is a place that time forgot. In our fateful quest to make time move just a little slower, this stretch of land is a refuge. Here, where the rhythmic motion of the waves and fierce gales rather than man shape the land, we come to seek — and find — perspective on the scale of the problems that seem to command so much of our attention on so many of our days. How grateful we should be to have these places that allow us to refocus. I know I am.

This is ABUNDANCE.

The Hood River Valley during springtime is a vision of abundance. Stretching all the way from the foot of mighty Mt. Hood to the banks of the Columbia River, what reigns supreme here this time of year is not just a sense of renewal and optimism but the accompanying simple beauty that lies within blossoming growth. How can you not reemerge with a newfound sense of your own purpose?

This is LONGING (click to see the full image).

Most of my days I am accompanied by a constant longing to heed the siren song of the ocean, to be near water, to stare out and thereby look within. Yes, the water’s edge is where I am meant to be, where my heart flourishes, where I find my true self. This much I know about myself by now. So today, and every day, with this piece, I invite you to join me as my spirit travels back and back again to the soulful wonderland that is the California Coast.

Sarah just had to get ELYSIUM into her home and onto her wall.

Ever since we first met at the West Seattle Summer Fest a few years ago, she had been looking at the piece, mesmerized by its colorful display of Washington's natural beauty, the place she so loves.

Since then, she'd be back in the gallery regularly for Art Walks, Wine Walks, and walk walks.

Until finally, she couldn't resist any longer. We worked together to find the perfect size for her space, and on the day of delivery, her vision finally became a reality.

"I am absolutely obsessed with it," she later wrote. "While this is my first piece from the gallery, I have a feeling that it won’t be my last."

Sometimes, it takes a little while for the stars to align — which makes every artwork delivery that much more special. ✨

Which piece do you have your eyes on? 👀

This is PACIFIC DREAM.

It was a morning as pretty as a dream along the shores of the sleepy California coastal town of Pacific Grove. Amid the vibrant blues and the dramatic light, I found great energy and a renewed sense of purpose that I knew would carry me forward long after I would eventually return home. Such is the magic of photographing moments like these: They are opportunities to create a giving source of energy and direction, to be revisited whenever needed. May Pacific Dream be that source in your life, too.

This is BODY, MIND & SOUL.

How many places are there where our bodies, our minds and our souls all feel truly connected? I don’t know about you, but during most of my days, this delicate triangle seems achingly out of whack. The good news is, though, that over time, I have learned that by the ocean is where I can come to rebalance that connection and come back to center. There, finally in alignment, I know my thoughts will flow freely, and my mind will wander back to the place where I subconsciously knew it wanted to go all along.

Here is the first look at one of the new signature artworks I am releasing later today... This is IDYLL.

Is this real? The same thought kept re-entering my awed mind… I knew from plenty of experience that the beauty of the Oregon Coast has the ability to stun even the most downtrodden soul back into a place of serene peacefulness. But this here… this was just such all-encompassing beauty.

I did my best to focus not so much on the camera in front of me but to feel the warmth of the setting sun on my face, to listen to the soft breeze rustle through the lupine, and to appreciate the true gift this moment gave me: immense gratefulness. Only then did I press the shutter button on my camera, and I knew I had etched a transcendent moment of bliss into the annals of eternity.

The image that jumpstarted my career as an artist... FAMILY BONDS.

04/02/2024

This is HONU — ANCIENT SPIRIT.

The ancient spirit of the honu — the Hawaiian green sea turtle — offers lifelong protection, wisdom and guidance. These majestic animals are a symbol of wisdom and good luck. Watching this turtle rest at Anini Beach, allowing the soothing edges of the glistening water to wash over its outspread flippers, I felt a sense of soul-piercing peace wash over my own body. As I looked into its eyes, I saw the kind of unhurried gentleness that makes the honu such a spirit animal.

This is for all of you who are also spellbount by the call of the ocean.

This is MAKAI — SEAWARD.

Makai in Hawaiian means seaward, or out to the ocean. A seafaring people, native Hawaiians used it as a navigational term. But in makai also hides in plain sight a metaphor for the landlocked lives of so many of us who nonetheless live by the call of the tides: Our navigational beacon points squarely shoreward at all times, for we know that it is in the presence of the sea that our soul flourishes.

Good morning to everyone who says it back!

Here is an image from Kauai that didn't make the cut for my recent THE LIGHT OF ALOHA, Vol. II release.

I thought I'd still share it with you here, as it's a good memory of a very peaceful evening.

What do you think?

03/21/2024

This is PAU — THE RELEASE.

One of the most commonly used words in Hawaii is pau — “finish”, or “the end”. At sunset, when the day is pau, people use the warm light of the last rays of light as an invitation to reflect. After all, more than marking a specific point in time, pau means closure. And so, as the sun sets, here is an opportunity to process all you have achieved today, to consider all the lessons from your experiences, to grieve all that needs grieving and forgive all that needs forgiving — all in order to move on, rest peacefully and get ready to welcome the opportunity of a new dawn on the other side.

In honor of the first day of spring... This is NA MEA A PUNI — A WARM EMBRACE, one of my brand-new signature fine art releases from the The Light of Aloha, Vol. II collection.

A soothing moment for the soul likes to hide in plain sight, and yet all too often we fail to see or acknowledge those moments. Hawaiians believe there is aloha — love — in everything that surrounds us, including in the way that water droplets cling to the beautifully textured ti leaves that are omnipresent on the islands. True beauty, the traditional thinking goes, is the warm embrace of na mea a puni — everything which surrounds.

Where can you find beauty today?

This is PU’UHONUA — SPIRITUAL HAVEN, part of my new THE LIGHT OF ALOHA, Vol. II release.

Hanalei Bay is my sanctuary. Anytime I come here, the warm trade winds seem to carry my worries away instantaneously. This bay, I know, is pu’uhonua — a place of aloha. Pu’uhonua is the kind of spiritual haven that could be found on all Hawaiian islands throughout traditional history here — if you were looking, that is. They are personal places of healing, to forgive and be forgiven, to retreat, rest and restore — to become whole again. That is what Hanalei Bay is to me… pu’uhonua.
