Feature statement excerpt:
“In her latest works, Obata has built gentle, poetic worlds filled with celestial bodies, birds, aquatic life, and plants that illustrate complex ideas of time and nature. Obata utilizes doodle-like line work and soft color accents to make even heavy subject matter feel approachable and personal...Each etching is a small, distilled moment...a shared experience between the artist and viewer as we process who we are at home, under the night sky, or in the future.”

Gallery News Update [as of Jan 27 2024]
Updates & progress at 85 Yesler Way

We are hard at work preparing our new location, 85 Yesler Way! Artworks are being carefully stored and inventoried, shelves and drawers cleaned and installed, and much more.

We are glad to report that our archival artwork storage has protected most of the art and we are hurrying to inspect each piece. However, it will take some time so we appreciate your patience. Our website is still temporarily unavailable and we have yet to set the new reopening date, but we will keep you informed.

Our deepest gratitude to so many community members, including Pratt Fine Arts, Seattle Print Arts, Print Zero Studios, Foster White Gallery and countless others. Thank you to our staff members who are caring for and documenting each piece. Most of our artworks were well protected from smoke by their mats or portfolios.

If you are interested in supporting Davidson Galleries staff, there are currently two official fundraisers, both organized by Seattle Print Arts. A new woodblock, ‘The Phoenix Rises from the Ashes’, by Charles Spitzack is available for purchase at seattleprintarts.bigcartel.com, the proceeds of which will go to the staff fund. You may also choose a direct monetary donation of any amount by visiting seattleprintarts.org/davidson-galleries-fundraiser.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Davidson Galleries! We can be reached at (206) 624-7684 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you in our new location soon! Please stay tuned for updates on our official social media profiles & newsletter.

Gallery News Update [as of Jan 14 2024]
Relocation & incident at 313 Occidental Ave S

We are sad to inform you that on Fri Jan 12, there was a fire in the alley behind Davidson Galleries (313 Occidental Ave S) which caused significant damage to the building, primarily from smoke. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The smoke has harmed some artworks and we are currently in the process of assessing the extent of the damage. However, it was not as extensive as initially thought, and we are hopeful that we will be able to preserve the vast majority of our inventory.

Some normal operations are currently suspended, including access to our website. We hope to resume our online and in-person services shortly. We apologize for the inconvenience.

At the time of the incident, we were already in the process of relocating to our new Pioneer Square location, 85 Yesler Way, and operating online only. Now we are able to safely house the artworks and reestablish operations in the new space.

Our anticipated reopening on February 1st will be postponed due to the current circumstances. We will announce the new reopening date as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and continued support of Davidson Galleries! We can be reached at (206) 624-7684 or [email protected].

We would like to thank the many community members who showed up at the gallery to lend a hand and to the countless others who have shared kind messages of support. Your words and actions have been greatly reassuring and motivating through this challenge.

We are truly grateful to be a part of a wonderful arts community.

We hope to return the favor and welcome you to our new space soon! Please stay tuned for updates on our official social media profiles & newsletter.

Dear Friends,

There was an incident at the gallery early this morning, Friday January 12, that caused damage to the building. All of our staff members are healthy and safe - no one was at the gallery at the time. We are busy assessing the situation and will update you further as soon as possible.

Thank you so much to the Seattle Fire Department and so many community members who have already shown their support!

Please email us at [email protected] if you need to reach us. Your patience is appreciated.

Featured Artist | Seiko Tachibana 01/08/2024

Davidson Galleries is pleased to share a new series of intaglio prints from California-based, Japanese artist Seiko Tachibana, titled Cosmos-Scene (2023). Tachibana’s work emphasizes connection, dissecting and relating elements such as water droplets, ferns, and constellations. The artist seeks structures and patterns under the microscope and finds their image again through the telescope. Her work frequently develops into large series that demonstrate her determination to explore each element from every angle.

Davidson Galleries is pleased to share new work from Japanese artist Keisei Kobayashi. Featured are five new wood engravings from 2021 and two newly added wood engravings from the 1980s. Kobayashi creates richly detailed wood engravings of the collision between nature and mankind’s excess. His work fluidly transports the viewer through multiple layers of life, from sea to sky to skyscraper. Kobayashi invites tranquility while passionately advocating for coexistence of living beings amidst the cold of urbanity.
