The Brotherhood Initiative at the University of Washington is a dynamic research team and practitioners aligning to support males of color.
The BI is a collaborative partnership among the College of Education, Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, and the Division of Student Life. Guided by a steering committee of staff, faculty, and students, the BI focuses on two primary goals:
Promote student growth and success by developing a cohort-based support system that will holistically promote the academ
Congratulations to all 2024 graduates, but in particular to this group of Brotherhood Initiative scholars who participated in various commencement ceremonies over the past week. This year's group of BI graduates included scholars from cohort 3 to cohort 6. We're so incredibly proud of them and all that they accomplished as undergraduates at the University of Washington. We're also proud of the future accomplishments as they head to working in their various fields of interests, graduate school, or professional school.

How can I help students connect their lived experiences to their social identities in affirming and enriching ways? Earlier today, scholars from the and shared in front of UW senior leadership and the UW foundation board about the impact and power of both of our programs. It was a powerful moment to hear our scholars share how much the BI and SI mean to them and their UW experience.

to a few weeks ago where the BI lead a group of 21 BI and SI scholars on a three week study abroad exploration seminar in Rome, Italy. The course focuses in Gender and Multiculturalism in Rome. Here is a photo of BI Scholars after our tour of the Vatican Museum and Saint Peter's Basilica.
We are excited to share our fourth class of graduating scholars from the University of Washington and the Brotherhood Initiative. We are so very proud of all the amazing things our students were able to accomplish during their time here at the UW. Among our graduates, we have students who have completed research, studied abroad, presented at national conferences, and held internships at top companies in Seattle and across the country.
The Brotherhood Initiative is hiring and we're accepting applications for our Student Success Coordinator (SSC) role. The SSC will help to implement programmatic and academic support initiatives that support the development of underrepresented men of color at the University of Washington, Seattle campus. Our student-ran RSO, Brother’s In Color, is hosting an alumni career panel this evening from 5:30-7pm in the ECC Black Room. This is a great opportunity to not only connect with BI Alumni, but to also hear about their experiences in their current field and how it’s been adjusting to post-grad life! Can’t wait to see you there!
On Friday, March 3rd, the BI will be hosting it’s second pick-up basketball game of the quarter! Come through and show us your skills 🏀✨🏃🏽♂️
