The Seattle Times reports on the grand opening of the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with Thinc Design.
“The Seattle Aquarium’s new Ocean Pavilion transports passersby from the concrete shore of the Salish Sea — with groaning ferry horns, electric bikes whizzing by and schools of pedestrians spilling off nearby cruise ships — to a tropical oasis.
“The building’s design, overseen by Seattle-based architecture firm LMN and Thinc Design, is state-of-the-art. Gone are the dark tunnels illuminated by exhibits in traditional aquariums. At the cedar, concrete and glass Ocean Pavilion, natural light and a view of the bay are blended with blissful scenes from the turquoise seas and mangrove trees of Indonesia.”

The wait is now over! The Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with Thinc Design opens tomorrow Thursday.
“Step out of the Pacific Northwest and into a warm, bright and vibrant underwater world teeming with life. Join us to discover the wonders of a reef ecosystem in the Coral Triangle—a region in the Indo-Pacific so rich in biodiversity that’s it’s been called “the Amazon of the ocean”! You’ll come face to face with 3,500 animals and plants: sharks, rays, schooling fish, mangroves, nearly 30 species of coral and so much more.
“As a complement to the habitat experience, the Ocean Pavilion will tell an unforgettable story about Earth’s one ocean through state-of-the-art digital storytelling. Guests of all ages will come away with a deepened understanding that all waters are connected. That our fate and the ocean’s are one and the same. And that, together, we can make a difference for the ocean we all depend on.”

Jennifer DuHamel, Principal at LMN Architects, comments: “We were inspired by the aspirations of Woodland Park Zoo to not only build empathy toward our natural world and inspire guests with conservation stories but also to use architecture and programming to move guests toward taking real conservation action. Together we designed an innovative, flexible armature for conservation action, including education, conversation, hands-on activities, and events which are surrounded by dynamic forest life.
“This project has been a true collaboration with Woodland Park Zoo and the local community, with a particular focus on exploring design ideas with groups who have been traditionally underrepresented at the zoo. With connection as its watchword, the new pavilion signals the future of zoo experiences, where visitors are given agency to find their own path, uncovering the inherent interconnectedness of the world’s forests.”

The Registry reports on the completion of the new Graystone Residential Building designed by LMN Architects.
“Graystone’s design is conceived in three parts, all relating to the surrounding context: the podium level, the tower, and the crown. Comprising the first five floors, the podium level is expressed in ground face CMU masonry, relating to the neighboring historic buildings which average five stories and are typically expressed in stone or brick. The remaining 29 floors take the form of a glass-and-steel tower with horizontal bands divided into four vertical quadrants, which connects visually to the nearby high rises and helps break down the tower’s scale. The iconic roofline offers an elegant addition to the city skyline beyond. Together, the building’s form and exterior palette help Graystone weave into the existing urban fabric, enhancing its connection to the neighborhood.”: https://news.theregistryps.com/271-unit-graystone-in-seattle-celebrates-completion/
Continuing with the coverage related to the recent completion of the Graystone Residential Tower designed by LMN Architects, e-architect from the UK publishes new images of the project.

“The building’s range of amenities further elevate the living experience, with two rooftop decks boasting panoramic views of the city skyline and surrounding landscape. The western, sunset-facing deck offers active spaces with barbeques, tables, and chairs, while the east-facing deck is more tranquil with a firepit, benches, and lounge chairs. Inside, Graystone offers residents an array of spaces for relaxation and entertainment ranging from a lounge to a media room, entertainment kitchen, and game room.”: https://www.e-architect.com/seattle/the-graystone-residential-building-seattle-washington

Interior Design Magazine has published 6 projects where creative and locale collide, including the Seattle Convention Center Summit building designed by LMN Architects.
“A six-story, 5.1 million-square-foot addition to the campus, this structure’s striking form—stacked volumes clad in black-aluminum or stainless-steel panels interspersed with glass curtain walls—reflects its pioneering vertical program. The lobby level connects to the facilities above—a multi use hall, meeting rooms, a penthouse ballroom—via escalators or a breathtaking staircase, dubbed the Hillclimb, which incorporates cushions printed with the state flower on bleacher seating of madrone, one of the woods, some of it salvaged, installed through out to evoke the Pacific Northwest’s forested beauty.”

“As a good neighbor, the project is providing $93 million in benefits to the community, primarily through funding contributions to public projects. In its first year, events and conferences held in Summit (including four campus-wide events) have seen approximately 175,000 attendees and yielded more than $200 million in economic impact. Exceeding local sustainability requirements, Summit achieved LEED Platinum status, the 2022 Vision Award for Water from the Seattle 2030 District and Salmon-Safe certification.”

“A treasured historic building in a landmarked, Olmstead-designed city park, the Seattle Asian Art Museum’s expansion and renovation inaugurates a new era for one of the few museums in North America dedicated exclusively to Asian art. The project marks the first substantial renovation of the landmarked, Art Deco building since its construction in 1933. The expansion and renovation restored the historic structure, modernized the original galleries, and added a new gallery, education space, conservation lab, and community art gallery. The project preserves the building’s architectural legacy while enhancing the museum’s capacity to support its growing collections and fosters a more inclusive relationship with the Seattle community.”

The bridge transforms the Everett waterfront, establishing a new connection between the historical Grand Avenue Park and the city’s developing waterfront district. The new bridge solves a complicated sequence of grade-changes and utility needs in an unlikely new form that weaves pedestrian ramps and stairs above, around, and inside a sloping truss, presenting an inviting new crossing from Grand Avenue Park to the waterfront district.”
