HSA NEWSLETTER April 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
After much consideration by the Board and administration, Quaker Valley will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024. The peak of the eclipse is expected to occur during dismissal for all buildings, and there is significant potential for students to be tempted to view it without proper safety precautions while exiting schools or on the bus.
The day will not need to be made up. The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently shared guidelines for handling this eclipse day, and our decision falls within those parameters. Our 2023-2024 academic calendar still meets the PDE requirements for school days, as the District will use its final available “snow day” built into our academic calendar. Please note, specific information regarding athletic events and practices will be communicated via the athletic director and/or coaches.
Mrs. Nellas' third graders learned about "Sky Cathedral" during Art in Motion today. It's a sculpture made out of ordinary objects and painted black. It was made in 1958 and can be seen irl at MOMA in New York City. https://www.moma.org/collection/works/81006
