Period Poverty Awareness week
May 23-29, 2022
The Alliance for Period Supplies created Period Poverty Awareness Week to draw attention to the issue of period poverty and the negative impact it has on people who menstruate.
Many factors contribute to period poverty, especially in the urban core. However, financial hardship and lack of education are the most common constraints amongst families. According to recent studies: 2 out of 5 preteen/teenage girls said they have struggled to afford hygiene products at home. This affects their school attendance, ability to participate in school sports and work.
Drop off your donations May 20-31. At any of the listed library locations.
***Diapers are also and always welcomed***

In the United States, diaper need is a silent crisis. Diapers are an essential need for children, just as essential as food and shelter are to their health and well-being. Regrettably, nearly one-third of American families struggle to afford diapers for their children.

“The high expense of diapers disproportionately affects low-income families with infants: according to government data, low-income families with infants spend 14% of their income on diapers, whereas middle-income families spend less than 3%.”
Thank you!!! Rep. Aimee Adatto Freeman for sponsoring the legislation to end taxes on diapers and period products.

Louisiana is ending its tax on diapers. 35 other states haven’t. The burden of paying for diapers weighs heavily on many families.
No parent should be forced to steal diapers in order to keep their child clean, dry, and healthy.
Police posted a photo of a man they say stole diapers from Walmart. Strangers across the country came to his defense. "I will pay for these items as long as you leave this man alone,” a teenager responded on the Facebook post.
