Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation is hosting a two-day Youth Basketball Camp at the LSU-Shreveport gymnasium:

- Monday, July 22nd: For boys and girls in kindergarten through 4th grade.
- Tuesday, July 23rd: For boys and girls in 5th through 8th grade.

Come and enhance your basketball skills while enjoying the experience! The camp will be led by legendary AAU basketball coach, Mike Theus.

Each camp session costs only $15 per camper, which includes a t-shirt and a camp photo. Snacks, hydration drinks, and lunch will be provided by the Caddo Parish Commission and Raising Cane’s for all campers. Camp slots are limited, so registration is required. Update on Eddie D. Jones Park Trails:

Over 90% of the horse trails are back open to the public at Eddie D. Jones Park.

All bike and hiking trails are still closed due to downed trees and debris from past storms.

The Parish ask all park users to obey barricades and signage. Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department staff and contractors are working diligently to get all trails back open!

Free Baseball Competition. It's not too late.

Caddo Parish and Recreation MLB Pitch Hit and Run/Jr. Home Run Derby has been rescheduled for July 1, 2024, at Captain Shreve Baseball Field. MLB Pitch Hit & Run (PHR) and MLB Jr. Home Run Derby (JrHRD) are free, one-day competitions that are easy to execute for players ages 4-14. PHR is the Official Skills Competition of MLB – providing youth the opportunity to show off their fundamental baseball/softball skills, and JrHRD is a fun competition that provides baseball players the chance to display their hitting power. The Jr. Home Run Derby is being held as a local competition only (no advancements).

The competition is open to all boys and girls age 7-14 and under. All participants compete together in one of two age groups (12U or 14U) and T-Ball (4-6). A participant’s age is determined as of November 15, 2024.

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. It is a time to bring awareness to the unique challenges that racial and ethnic minorities in the United States face when it comes to mental illness. In 2020, fewer than one in every two African American adults got care for mental health. In 2018, Asian Americans were 60 percent less likely to receive mental health treatment than non-Hispanic Whites. Obstacles for many include a lack of health insurance, less access to treatment, and stigma.
