For the Army, Juneteenth honors Black Soldiers who fought and sacrificed to ensure the Constitution fulfilled its promise to all Americans.

Courageous, selfless and dedicated service by Black Soldiers in units like the XXV Corps and 10th Colored Infantry helped cement the gains provided by the Civil War and opened the door to widespread military service for Black men for the first time in American history.

Shreveport Company conducted future soldier training at Betty Virginia Park today and gave classes on finance / how to read an LES, Military time, phonetic alphabet, rank structure, and more. Meanwhile, family members spoke with the command team and station commanders about what to expect while their sons and daughters attend basic training. Here at Shreveport Company, you’re not just a number but a person who matters; we care for our own. Parents got to ask questions about military life, college benefits, Army Programs, pay structure, and learn more about Army life. Afterward, everyone played co****le ate lunch, and got some cake to celebrate the Army’s 249th Birthday! We conducted this event to get families more involved with the recruiting process and clear up any misconceptions about basic training or Army life. This event was highly successful, and we can’t thank the families enough for coming out. Our celebrations began yesterday with visit to City of Shreveport Government. SFC Lurora Davis of the Shreveport South Recruiting Station joined Mayor Arceneaux for a special cake cutting.
