Feast Day of St. James the Apostle
O gracious God, we remember before you today your servant and apostle James, first among the Twelve to suffer martyrdom for the Name of Jesus Christ; and we pray that you will pour out upon the leaders of your Church that spirit of self-denying service by which alone they may have true authority among your people; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

From our Bishop, as read in church this morning:
July 14, 2024
Dear Friends,
Like you, my heart is deeply troubled by the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally. We pray for the former president, for the spectators who were killed and injured, for the perpetrator who died, and for his family.
Life is fragile and precious. Such violence reminds us of the profound need for peace and reconciliation in our world. Jesus teaches us to love our neighbor and to minister to the suffering. As our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has said, the way of Jesus is the way of love. Never the way of violence.
In response to this shocking act of violence, let us redouble our commitment to loving our neighbor as ourselves and to seeing each person we meet as the beloved child of God.
In Christ’s peace,
+Jake

Almighty God, who created us in your image: Grant us grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom, help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our communities and among the nations, to the glory of your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (BCP, p. 261)
