Prom through the Decades! Fri, May 3, be fancy like or casual
Friday, May 3 in Sioux Falls! 6:45pm ballroom dance lessons before this month's Big Band dance: Prom through the Decades! You don't have to wear prom attire but if you want to... bust out those baby blue tuxes and poofy gowns. It's going to be a blast from the past. New dancers welcome!!!
This Friday, May 3rd in Sioux Falls. Dance lesson at 6:45pm then dancing to the Shrine Big Band until 10:30pm. More lessons and group dances during the band breaks. Dress prom or just dress for a fun Friday night on the town! $15 at the door, $7 with student ID. All are welcome to this monthly dance held on the beautiful wood floors at the El Riad Shrinedowntown. Free parking everywhere and in the lot east of the building in Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.

The Jan 12th Big Band Dance is still on tonight at the El Riad, 510 S Phillips, Sioux Falls. Warm up with a 6:45pm swing lesson, followed by music from DJ Lisa. ***Unfortunately the band can't make it but will be here in February! Free parking on the street and in the lot on the eastside of the building.
The DANCE is still on for tomorrow night! It might be cold outside but come warm up on the dance floor! DJ Lisa will be spinning popular music from swingin' big band to danceable music. The Apostles will move to the dance on February 9!

Bundle up and join us for the Jan 12th Big Band Dance which kicks off with a swing dance lesson at 6:45pm. DJ Lisa will have music for swing, ballroom, Latin, 2step and even a polka or two. Due to weather, the Apostles will not be able to make it this month but we hope to see them soon!

A Long Proud History of Dance
Founded in 1946 as the "Mr & Mrs Dance Club", the Ballroom Dance Club has a rich heritage in the Sioux Falls area. Early dances were held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, Ramada Inn and the Arkota Ballroom.
When the club began, members had to be married males at least 25 years of age or older. Their wives were considered inactive and designated "honorary members" whose membership would terminate upon their husbands' termination. In its early years the club accepted up to 200 couples by vote of secret ballot with a waiting list of couples wanting to be in the club.
The club's dances remained very popular through the 50's and 60's with such bands as Ray's Rhythm, Tiny Little, Phil James, Shirley's, Billy Redman, Wally Jerome, Danny Kealy, The Oakleys, Johnny Soyer, Jimmy Darrell, Marvin Reedstrom and Sammy Jensen.
In the early years of the club, couples dressed quite formally to attend the dances. As time went on and society became more casual so did the dress for the club. Today the club still requests business casual to dressy attire to make the monthly dances a special evening out.
