Todd Wilkinson (right) Immediate past President of National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) was Sertoma Club speaker for August 6, 2024. Todd was introduced by Mark Berg (left).
NCBA Vision
To be the trusted leader and definitive voice of the U.S. cattle and beef industry.
NCBA Mission
To serve the cattle and beef industry by improving the business climate, growing beef demand, and increasing the world's access to U.S. beef.
The NCBA Federation of State Beef Councils Division oversees beef and beef product promotion, research, information and related activities financed by the Beef Checkoff and similar market development investments. It also functions as the Federation of 43 Qualified State Beef Councils and carries out the duties and responsibilities assigned to the Federation by the Beef Promotion and Research Act and Order. In this way, NCBA coordinates state-national efforts to build demand for beef.
The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is the national trade association representing U.S. cattle producers, with more than 25,000 individual members and several industry organization members. Together NCBA represents more than 175,000 cattle producers and feeders. NCBA works to advance the economic, political and social interests of the U.S. cattle business and to be an advocate for the cattle industry's policy positions and economic interests.
As family farmers and ranchers, cattlemen have a vested interest in protecting the environment. As responsive producers, they share an interest in meeting the needs of consumers worldwide by providing high-quality, nutritious beef, while setting higher quality and safety standards than those required by the government. As individual entrepreneurs, cattlemen raise livestock in more states than any other commodity, helping sustain a way of life in thousands of rural communities.
NCBA works to encourage the humane treatment of farm animals, the wise stewardship of natural resources and the implementation of good husbandry practices.
Todd mentioned that if you are so incline to give donations for animal programs like ASPCA to consider doing it locally, instead of nationally due to they may not necessarily be directing your funds to the areas you might be thinking. By giving locally your money may be used as you wish. He also advocated against laboratory protein (fake meat), he believes in natural grass/corn feed cows (real meat), then there is no question as to where the meat is. 😊

Dave Clark (right) Corporate Care of the Sioux Empire was Sertoma Club speaker for July 16, 2024. Dave was introduced by Ray Brooks (left).
In January of 2010, God opened the door for James to minister as a part-time chaplain at a local manufacturing plant. Through the opening of one door, many doors to employees’ hearts have since been opened to Christ’s love and care. In 2013, God revealed a great opportunity and need in the Sioux Empire for workplace ministry.
On October 1st, 2013, James and his family made the decision to “move” his pastoral ministry from the local church to the workplace through the birth of Corporate Care of the Sioux Empire.
The Corporate Care Vision
Corporate Care’s vision became a reality, enabling workplace leaders to offer proactive care to their employees who voluntarily seek to move out of brokenness into wholeness through our chaplain assistance program. This program incorporates on-site confidential pastoring, counseling, crisis care, hospital visits, and Bible studies, so employees become healthier and the workplace is blessed. We are also blessed to strategize with companies to foster an environment of mutual care and service both in the workplace and beyond. We are seeing a ripple-effect as we come alongside and encourage business leaders as they steward themselves for the glory of God’s kingdom.
Life-impacting ministry is happening every day through Corporate Care chaplaincy at various businesses. We are growing and currently offering care to hundreds of employees in South Dakota, Minnesota & Nevada. God orchestrates daily conversations with employees concerning their personal burdens, on their turf. Many ask for His life-giving truth in search for hope and freedom. There are multiple weekly Bible studies with dozens of employees participating, again, where they work. One beauty of these studies is that employees voluntarily spend their time interacting with a book of the Bible. These folks join in from a wide range of ethnicities, denominations, and even faiths as they learn and care for each other.
Partner with Corporate Care We are blessed to be compensated for our services by the workplaces we serve. At the same time, we rely on the generous gifts of others to fully fund the work of Corporate Care. Will you please consider partnering with Corporate Care in this work? The sending power of your prayers and your individual gifts* will allow Corporate Care to be in a position to serve the local owners, CEOs, and employers who desire us to labor for “lasting employee care” with them and their employees. We are in a great place to forge ahead in workplace ministry as God opens doors! If you feel led to give, you can give below.
*Corporate Care of the Sioux Empire is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All gifts are tax deductible unless otherwise indicated.

America’s Story 250 OUR NATION’S SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL
America’s Story is a powerful program of stories, history poetry and music, that has inspired all who hear it. America’s Story 250 is a 501(c)(3) corporation whose goal is to inspire, teach and reinvigorate all Americans.
ONLINE
Promoting the video through influencers and social media posts encouraging people to hear the story in small snippets, or in its entirety.
IN SCHOOLS
To reach out to history and civics teachers and equip them with a simple class exercise to promote thoughtful in-class discussion.
IN PERSON
To travel to all 50 states because a live performance has greater impact and more connection other influencers.
IN 60 SECONDS
The hard task is to tell the story in short form- to break down America’s Story into small pieces to fit the busyness and attention span of most Americans.
As was stated, the goal is large. To reach all Americans will require much support and coordination. The project is designed to be scalable and will grow to fit the support. We have had a number of interested parties asking for details, and will fill all the demands as support allows. At the end of the project (or me!) all excess funds will be donated to non-profit veterans programs as determined by the Board.

2024 SERTOMAN OF THE YEAR

Ryan William Duffy
This Sertoman joined the Noon Sertoma Club in 2009 and soon
became active in the club chairing projects, joined the board and
was elected Noon Sertoma President in July 2018.
Ryan William Duffy is a third generation Sertoman, following his
dad, Bill and grandpa, Frank. He is the third child of Bill and Jill
Duffy, and he has two older sisters, April and Sara. He attended
Washington High School, as his father Bill, grandpa Frank and
great grandpa William Duffy did. He graduated in 2006 and then
graduated from SDSU in 2010 with an Economics major.
Ryan then started his career in the insurance business with his
dad at Principal Financial because he loved how his dad could
take his time off when he wanted to!! Pretty much his own boss.
After Bill retired Ryan took over his block of business completely
and continues to help his clients with financial planning and
health insurance needs.
In 2013 he married his high school sweetheart, Jennie Thiry and
today they have four children, Ava 8, Max 6, Ella 3 and Crue 2 1/2
months, Remi, his hunting lab and shadow who adores him and
Teddy, a lap dog who adores her.
Ryan has always lived in Sioux Falls and Lake Madison. Anyone
living in the vicinity of his house is lucky! His love of grilling,
cooking and canning for an army of people is well appreciated by
all who live near him. His garage door is always open! He loves
hunting and fishing. His motto is if I kill an animal, I eat it or if I
pick asparagus, wild plums or plant a garden, I can it!
At the heart of Ryan's endeavors lies his role as chairman of the
hearing aid program within Sertoma. With a passion for aiding
those facing hearing challenges, Ryan ensures that the program
operates seamlessly, extending its reach to those who require
assistance. Central to this process is a form meticulously crafted
by Ryan, designed to capture the essence of why individuals seek
Sertoma's aid. Through this form, Ryan understands not just the
need for assistance but the human stories behind each request.
Each month, Ryan assumes the role of hearing aid ambassador,
bridging the gap between Sertoma's offerings and those in need.
With unwavering dedication, he sits down with each applicant,
offering empathy, understanding, and a promise of support. With
compassion as his guide, Ryan explains the spectrum of services
Sertoma provides, not merely confining the conversation to the
immediate aid but extending it to encompass programs like the
refurbished hearing aid initiative.
As the co-chairman of Sertoma Fest, Ryan invests over 300 hours
each year to orchestrate a banquet that serves as both a
celebration of community spirit and a vital fundraising opportunity.
With attention to detail, he ensures that every aspect of the event
is planned and executed, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie
and goodwill that reverberates throughout the Sertoma
community.
But Ryan's dedication doesn't stop there. Year after year, he takes
on the role of a dedicated salesperson, moving over 50 Sertoma
football books annually. Through his efforts, he not only raises
funds but also spreads awareness of Sertoma's mission, garnering
support from individuals far and wide.
In addition to his fundraising endeavors, Ryan is a supporter of the
Special Needs Christmas Party, where he selflessly dedicates his
time to set up, service, and clean up for an event that brings joy to over 300 children. With boundless energy and enthusiasm, he
ensures that every detail is attended to, creating an environment
where children can enjoy the magic of the holiday season,
surrounded by love and acceptance.
Ryan Duffy is the linchpin of Sertoma's social scene, orchestrating
memorable gatherings with precision and flair. From scouting
venues to crafting mouthwatering menus, Ryan's touch ensures
each event is a resounding success. With his culinary expertise,
he transforms ordinary occasions into culinary delights, fostering
connections that linger long after the last dish is served. In Ryan,
Sertoma finds not just an event coordinator but a true champion of
fellowship, whose dedication to community spirit is unmatched.
Ryan has always had a "soft heart" for people. When just a little
boy he would see a special needs child in a wheelchair and pray
every night for that child for weeks! He also loved animals. He
grew up with a great dog we rescued from the pound when he was
just 3-4 years old. The family even had to have a funeral service at
home for his 3-year-old goldfish, Goldie, who accidently died
when his mom was cleaning his bowl.
Ryan enjoys helping and serving people. It truly is his spiritual gift
from God. He and Jennie attend Embrace Church and he will take
his time to help anyone in need. Being a Sertoman serving
mankind fits his character perfectly. His love for God, family and
Country is his priorities in life. Your 2024 Sertoman of the Year
Ryan Duffy

Community Health Worker: Jenna Kate Van Bruggen (left) was Sertoma Club speaker for March 19. 2024. Fran Rice (right) introduced her.
Community Health Workers (CHW) are lay members of the community who work either for pay or as volunteers in association with the local health care system or non-profit organization in both urban and rural environments. CHWs usually share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, and life experiences with the community members they serve. They have been identified by many titles, such as community health advisors, lay health advocates, promotoras, outreach educators, community health representatives, peer health promoters, and peer health educators. CHWs offer interpretation and translation services, provide culturally appropriate health education and information, help people get the care they need, give informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors, advocate for individual and community health needs, and provide some direct services such as first aid and blood pressure screening.
Since CHWs typically reside in the community they serve, they have the unique ability to bring information where it is needed most. They can reach community residents where they live, eat, play, work, and worship. CHWs are frontline agents of change, helping to reduce health disparities in underserved communities.
Jenna Kate is a CHW through Health Connect of South Dakota.
