Extraordinary Kids Therapy

Day 1 of Camp EKT was nothing short of extraordinary 🩷 So many different kiddos, all equally included and empowered in a fun, safe, and therapy-enriched day. This is what it’s all about. This is the EKT difference 🌈 So proud of our staff and our students for developing this amazing, one of a kind program for these kiddos. It’s about to be the best summer ever!

That’s a wrap on the most extraordinary first week in our new home. Every day this week I’ve tried to find the words to write a post expressing my gratitude to our EKT family but the reality is that I will never be able to find the words. We are living a dream come true here. To do what you love with people that you love who all share the same vision is like catching lightning in a bottle. Starting in July, we will have social groups year round at our 7 Smith Ave location 🩷 Groups run for 6 weeks at a time and we can take insurance for the program! Each group is run by licensed therapists and we have inclusive groups that cater to all ages and ALL abilities. 🌈

Our first round of groups includes a mommy & me group (FULL), a LEGO® Therapy Social Skills Group, a very exciting TEEN TRIBE group, and a Social Thinking group 🩵 As always, our programs are small by design and fill up extremely fast.

Our favorite swing is back in action! 🩷🌈

Pleased to report the Adpative Swing at Deerfield Park has been repaired. Signage on the appropriate use of the swing is forthcoming. Thank You to Randy Rossi Town of Smithfield, RI, Kristen Ricciardelli, Gene Allen, and Robert Caine for all your help in getting this swing repaired for the youth in our community who look forward to enjoying it.

It’s official - we will see you at 389 Putnam Pike beginning June 10th 💙💕🌈 Grand opening event will follow in July once all the finishing touches are done. Our sensory gyms are being 100% custom made right here under our own roof over this next week.

Always remember that social media is a highlight reel. We’ve shared all the exciting parts of this project with you guys but we have not shared all the very tough, hard days that it took to get here. This incredible new clinic is the result of so much hard work, sweat, and tears paying off (shockingly no blood lol). We are forever striving to show our kiddos that life can be as extraordinary as you decide to make it for yourself. We can’t wait to share every bit of this space with our community! 🩵

We are so so proud of this sweet graduate today! Our extraordinary little friend has met all of her OT goals after working soooo hard with Ms. Lindsey these past few months. It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to our little friends. Our families truly do become family and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. So proud of this sweet girl!! 🩷🌸🌈

Our speakers are Kerri Cassino & Michelle Mecure from SPEAR (Special Education Advocacy and Reform RI)

SPEAR - is a parent volunteer group to help parents learn about how to advocate. Including how to support a bill at The RI Statehouse for school related needs or something of interest. Our SPEAR, is made up with multi disciplinary backgrounds, advocates, mom advocates, teachers, SLPs, The Arc RI, RAMP and RIPIN to name a few. We help with suggestions on how to collaborate as part of a team. Fostering good relationships, building skills to help avoid conflict or an impasse. Also, with education for the laws around ADA and IDEA….and so much more.

Today is a special day because not only is it Ms. Lauren’s birthday, it is also National Speech-Language Pathologist Day! 💛

Ms. Lauren is our Director of Speech at EKT and it’s hard to even put into words how much she means to us. She is passionate, kind, mindful, creative, empowering, and truly embodies all of our EKT values. She works so hard every day to make a difference for her kiddos, their families, and our team. Now for our amazing speechies - Gianna, Jaclyn, Taylor, Natalee, and Lauren - where do we even begin? You gals are extraordinary. I cry when I think about how terrified I was to add speech to our practice last year, but you grew our speech program with grace, hard work, flexibility, and your passion for what you do. You girls have taught us all so much. You all embody everything that EKT stands for and our families adore you. You are irreplaceable. You are magic. You are the best group of speechies we could ever hope for. Thank you for choosing EKT as the place to share your gift with the world. Keep shining so so bright 🙏🏻💕💛

Happy Mother’s Day to our amazing EKT mamas 🩷🌈 Families often find their way to us in the midst of their darkest hours - sometimes following a new diagnosis, or after battling with their child’s school to ensure their basic needs are being met, or after having their concerns dismissed by others, or after finding strength in being ready to accept help on their child’s unique journey. We are forever in awe of the strength, patience, passion, and superpowers that our mamas hold in their hearts. You inspire us every single day. It is the greatest honor of our lives to walk beside you and your child 🩷 It’s so special that here at EKT, our mama’s truly have become best friends to us and to eachother. Absolutely incredible progress up the road this past week at EKT 2 🩷🌈 Here’s a sneak peak of our murals! So special to see our branding fill these walls. Our reception window is in too which is soooo excited because our current office is too small for reception. And lots of work happening outside - paving the parking lot and prepping the playground area for install soon.

Home stretch! We are less than 1 month out 🙏🏻 keep the good vibes coming!

Tonight we are sending off our beautiful Ms Sarah to enjoy the final few weeks of her pregnancy before she becomes a boy mama 💙👶🏻🍼 Sarah is so so special to us and we can’t wait for her to come back to us and for all the baby snuggles. Sarah and Ashley started off together in Connecticut years ago and then when EKT opened, Sarah jumped right in and has been such a blessing to us AND our families. So proud to know you, love you, and work beside you our gal 🩷 love you forever and always! *wipes tears* (I’m literally sobbing typing this lol)

So many big updates this week 🩷 Murals are underway, ceiling is in, floors are 99% done, doors & doorknobs, bathrooms, furniture - oh my! 🤣 It’s all so beautiful and we can’t wait to fill it with your little ones. Say hello to our amazing new fieldwork students - Ms. Meg and Ms. Bre! 🩷🩵 They are from Massachusetts College Of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and will be with us for the next 12 weeks completing their level 2B fieldworks. We expect extraordinary things from every employee or student who enters our space - and these ladies have far exceeded our expectations so far in week 1! We can’t wait to watch them grow even more during their time with us 🌈🌷☀️🌸🩷

With our big expansion we will be introducing several new services and programs at EKT 🩷🌈

Our current location will transition into the home of our year-round social skills programs and psychological services including mental health counseling and social work. Enrollment for our therapeutic preschool (Sept 2024) will open next week for 10 lucky kiddos! Annnnnd in June our baby led weaning course will available.

More progress this week up at EKT 2 🌈🩵🌷our huge beautiful windows went in and they look sooooo beautiful! We are in the home stretch and are starting to prepare for our smooth transition in June.

We are still accepting new clients at our current location but come June all OT, PT, and speech services will take place at our huge new building location at 389 Putnam Pike. Our current location at 7 Smith Ave will become the home to our psychological services ANDDDDD what everyone is most excited for - our year round social skills programs! 🩷🩷🩷

Our tea party & ninja academy are super full - BUT we do still have a few more spots for Friday's Stem & Science Sesh next week! 🥰
