Chinook Farms
Community Supported diversified farm. We raise and sell grass fed & finished beef in Snohomish, WA. We also rent land to other emerging farmers.
Chinook Farms is a 132 acre Community Supported certified organic farm located on Elliott Road south of Snohomish about 1.5 miles east of Highway 9, in the Cathcart area. We offer a 22 week farm-share program with two pick-up days at the farm (Wednesdays and Fridays). Chinook Farms grows a diversity of mixed vegetables for our farm-share produce boxes and for Farmer's Market. We grow organic wheat
Several eagles around the farm today. This one let me get within about 40 feet and sat long enough to snap a couple pictures with my iPhone.
I’ve seen and found a lot of things in the fields while in a tractor but this is a first for me! I got my 2-point 🦌!
This calving season, can it get any crazier? Tuesday about 4 pm I got a call from my farm hand that we had another new calf but the cow was a bit distressed with a stalled labor on a second calf. Contractions were not productive. I scrubbed up and grabbed my vet box and headed to the barn. With the cow haltered, it was time to help her get the second calf out to give it a chance to thrive. Stalled labor could mean the calf was not presenting in the right orientation so before pulling on the legs it was necessary to make sure the head was not bent backwards in the birth canal. Time to reach in and see if there were any problems. Up to my elbow inside a cow is a unique experience, I’m not gonna’ lie. Much to my relief, the calf’s head was properly positioned. In fact when I felt around the calf started suckling on my finger! All great signs. Now I could help get the calf out. With a little help, the calf was delivered alive and momma quickly started licking it off to stimulate the calf. In a matter of minutes the calf was up and looking for his first meal.
This was our 4th set of twins this year. Typically the chances of twins in beef cattle is about 2% of pregnancies. This year we are 4 of 18 so far, 22%!
BABY CALF UPDATE
After a long weekend of nursing and feeding through a tube without much improvement and no suckling action on a bottle, we have finally seen a glimmer of hope. I was finally able to get the little guy to SLOWLY take a few sips off the bottle. After about an hour and some serious patience, a full quart and a half of milk was onboard. Fingers crossed that maybe we’ve turned a corner. 🤞🏼🐮
We’ve spent most of the weekend nursing this little guy. I guess there’s now a reason why we never got rid of the kids play pen years ago! 🤣🐮
He’d been rejected by his momma and missed nursing a while before we found him. Hoping he pulls through but he’s still not suckling a bottle. We have to feed him with a tube until he can gain enough strength to nurse properly. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
This part of the “job” is extremely difficult.
Anyone in need of a little time on the farm? could use your help!

As 2023 comes to a close, we are looking forward to spring and 2024. This dandelion has jumped the gun!
To our beef, pork and hay customers, thank you for your support. We will continue to produce the best food we can.
Merry Christmas from Chinook Farms.
A beautiful morning view above the farm.
To all my farm neighbors, I’ll apologize right now. Today we separated calves from the cows as part of the normal cycle on the farm. If the calves are left with the mommas too long, the cows will get too skinny and put their next calf that they are carrying at risk. This is always a judgment call for me the farmer. The calves will get the best quality forage we have to enable them to thrive without the milk from mom.
Within a few days all will settle down in their new roles.
We raise and sell beef, the real stuff made from beef! Our ground beef is second to none in flavor and quality.
Any package of ground beef from Chinook Farms contains meat from only a single animal unlike industrial ground beef that is literally from thousands of animals all mixed together.
We have 3 BBQ pigs left. They will range in size from 50-70 pounds when ready for your grill or smoker. Message us for pricing and any questions you might have.
Our fabulous next door neighbors at Bob’s Corn have sweet corn 🌽 ready starting tomorrow! Go get some!
The wait is over…….Tomorrow, Tuesday August 8th. Sweet corn is ready!!! See you at 10am!!

We raise a few pigs at Chinook Farms each year. This story is about the opposite extreme in hog farming. Imagine a 26-story high rise building dedicated solely to raising hogs from birth to slaughter. It is simply mind boggling. Now, just imagine the smell…
China’s Bid to Improve Food Production? Giant Towers of Pigs. High-rise hog farms have sprung up nationwide as part of Beijing’s drive to enhance its agricultural competitiveness and reduce its dependence on imports.
New piglets at Chinook Farms! These little ones are 3 days old and coming out to enjoy the sunshine on this glorious Thanksgiving day. These are American Guinea Hogs, a small breed that weee very popular in the 1700’s & 1800’s farmsteads.
We will apologize in advance to our neighbors near the farm. Today was weaning day. It might be a bit noisy for the next couple days.
Now that these spring calves are 7-8 months old and 400-600 pounds, it’s time to give the momma cows a rest.
