VA.gov | Veterans Affairs 05/08/2024

TO ALL READERS! PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE AWFUL SCAMS THAT ARE OCCURRING. PLEASE ALWAYS LOOK INTO WHOM IS CONTACTING YOU AND GET THEIR INFORMATION, BADGE NUMBER, OR ANY OTHER DETAILED INFORMATION AND THEN HANG UP AND THEN CALL THEM BACK. BE SURE TO VERIFY THIS IS A TRUE/LEGIT COMPANY. ALWAYS RESEARCH AND HAVE FAMILY/FRIENDS HELP.

Please share with your networks for amplification.

VA has learned that its National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD) logo is being used in an apparent scam to fraudulently solicit donations for a fictitious research study in the United Arab Emirates. Specifically, the fraudsters have duplicated the NCPTSD website www.ptsd.va.gov, altering executive leadership names and photos. The fraudsters have also duplicated www.edition.cnn.com and republished it with fabricated content about the fabricated study. NCPTSD has no involvement with any research in the UAE, nor does VA solicit funds from Veterans for studies.

VA has contacted the Office of the Inspector General, and we are working urgently with authorities to get the fraudulent website removed. We are not presently aware of widespread victims, but we will assist authorities in identifying and supporting any impacted Veterans – and we are working to protect additional Veterans from using this site. As a part of that effort, we are communicating with partners, posting a website banner on www.ptsd.va.gov to warn Veterans about potential fraudulent threats, and reaching out to Veterans who subscribe to VA’s PTSD Monthly Update with fraud prevention information.

We will continue to work this issue and keep you apprised as we learn more. We also encourage any Veterans who want to learn more about how to protect themselves from fraud to visit VA.gov/VSAFE.

Regards,

Ndidi Mojay | Office of Intergovernmental Affairs | U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
