The Maria Fire is currently burning 50 acres and is 5% contained. The following roads are closed: Jesus Maria Road. Evacuation orders have been issued for zones CCU-030-A and CCU-042-B, with an evacuation warning for zone CCU-029. In response to the fire, Calaveras County Health & Human Services Agency, in coordination with the American Red Cross, has established an emergency shelter at:

Due to the high temperatures expected throughout this week and through the weekend, cooling centers will open in Mariposa County at the following locations from Monday, July 22nd through Thursday, July 25th.

All Library locations will be open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (in addition to regular days and hours).

Area 12 Agency on Aging will soon start registration for online and in-person classes for: Yoga, Pilates, Tai-Chi and more. Come to our Sonora office located at 19074 Standard Rd. on July 18th from 8:30am to 10:30am and register. Space is limited so don't forget to mark your calendar.

Due to the high temperatures expected throughout the rest of the week, cooling centers will open in Mariposa County at the following locations from Wednesday, July 3rd through Tuesday, July 9th. All Mariposa County pools will remain open an additional two hours each day as well.

Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial Hall is a Cooling Center throughout the rest of the week. Hours of operation are from 10AM - 8PM. Do not suffer through the heat if you do not have to. Plenty of activities for kids, seating and space, Snacks and Water also available.

Excessive Heat Warning!

Good morning, Amador County

Due to the Excessive Heat Warning the National Weather Service has issued, a Cooling Center will be opened from Wednesday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 7th. (Additional days may be added if the heat event continues). This Cooling Center will be at the Health and Human Services building located at 10877 Conductor Blvd, Sutter Creek, and will be open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. Amador County Social Services staff will be on-site to provide water and snacks donated by the American Red Cross.

You’re also invited to bring your household pet to this Cooling Center, and the Amador County Animal Response Team (ACART) will be on-site to help you kennel your furry friend while you cool off. Kennels will be on-site and water will also be provided for your pet.

Plymouth and Ione will also have their own Cooling Centers. Plymouth’s will be at City Hall (9426 Main Street) from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm from Wednesday through Friday, and Ione’s will be at the Ione Fire Department, Station 2, located at 600 Preston Avenue from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm from today through Sunday. Also, you can always cool off at the Jackson Library and catch up on your reading.
