The Tuolumne County Breastfeeding Coalition is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in our community.
Members are comprised of lactation consultants, La Leche League leaders, nurses, dietitians, breastfeeding peer counselors, and other community members. We coordinate World Breastfeeding Week activities, conferences on odd years, and the Tuolumne County Breastfeeding Yellow Pages. In addition, we coordinate breastfeeding-support volunteers and provide hospital grade breast pump rentals.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Breastfeeding has been proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer in both mom and baby. You can read more about the benefits to both mother and baby at the link below: https://www.mdanderson.org/publications/focused-on-health/breastfeeding-breast-cancer-prevention.h19-1589046.html

Every year the Tuolumne County Breastfeeding Coalition asks for nominations for the "Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace" of the year. This year two lovely employees at Tuolumne County Animal Control sent in nominations.
We are pleased to announce that Tuolumne County Animal Control won!
Officer Pfeiffer and RVT Christina both spoke about the support they are given as breastfeeding moms while at work. Even while out in the field, or helping evacuate animals from wildfires, their team bands together to support and protect breastfeeding!
Thank you to Tuolumne Co Animal Control for what you do for our community and the breastfeeding moms in the workplace.
