My first baby turned 5 years old at 5:55am this morning ☀️ Becoming Tripp’s mother transformed me in a way I will never be able to put into words. He both healed me and cracked me open instantly. Being his mother became so impactful that the experience shaped my career path, and now it pours over into my community. The intensity of those early postpartum days will never be lost on me. I am honored to walk with new families during their birth and breastfeeding journeys. To hold fresh souls in my hands everyday and look into their eyes is profound. My son will probably never understand the impact and ripple effect his existence has had on so many mothers and babies. But I see it. I feel it. And it makes me cry 🥹 He is pure magic. Straight from heaven. My greatest teacher. Milk Lady is all thanks to Tripp Davis. He led me here, and continues to show me my truth…

The magic of feminine duality ✨

04/19/2024

The first 2 weeks postpartum is the primary focus I educate on in my prenatal classes, and during my prenatal 1:1’s with doula clients. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching about the whole first 3 years! But, I have found that the first two weeks is often the “make it or break it” period for mothers who have goals for breastfeeding. I myself have struggled so much with breastfeeding in the first couple weeks with both babies. I remember the despair and desperation I felt. It’s that new mother in me that motivates me to empower other mothers on their feeding journeys! My heart breaks seeing families make concrete decisions during such a tender time of transition. I have met more mothers than I can count who say “I wish I wouldn’t have made the decision to stop lactating, or to exclusive pump so early in our journey. I wasn’t in a good place and if I could go back and change it I would”. I wish that lactation wasn’t time sensitive, but it absolutely is. My goal is to equip families with information, resources, tools, and in home support during this time of transition and LEARNING.

Could you have benefited from in home lactation support and additional weight checks in the first 2 weeks postpartum?

The feedback we are receiving from the MotherBaby sound bath has been incredible!❤️ The mamas who attended expressed feeling safe to enjoy something nurturing for themselves and their babies in a public space. The truth is, Mothers and babies are not usually fully embraced and welcome in most public spaces. Rather tolerated. Mothers and babies FEEL this energetically. To not be fully welcome and seen makes a mama and baby feel anxious. This is why mothers isolate. Protecting their peace. Protecting their child. The feminine, especially during transition from maiden to mother is sensitive and deeply desires community. Creating spaces within a fast paced society for mothers and small children to be seen, and accepted in their slow and magical season is healing✨

I work with my clients on mindfulness in motherhood. Mindfulness and fluidity is a key factor in empowered mothering, but especially if nursing from the breast is your goal. To understand our nervous system and how this impacts our relationship with our babies is crucial for the development of both mother and child.

Our babies are not separate from ourselves starting at birth. Our newborns after birth need us even more intensely than when they were inside our womb. This cracks us wide open. It’s little by little with co regulation that they develop their sense of self and we build a symbiotic relationship. We develop our new sense of self, meeting ourselves as Mother.

As I read from Powerful Postpartum by I blinked tears back. How I wish these types of conversations were being had mainstream with young women and mothers. I am excited to read on with you all as we reflect on our journeys of Matrescence. I invite you and your baby or child(ren) to attend our next sound bath, meditation, and reading Stay tuned for the next date/time 💕

👚”Decolonize Breastfeeding & Cease Fire Now! Free Palestine” T-Shirt orders are live on www.themilklady.net. Proceeds donated to a non partisan organization committed to serving women affected by war and conflict.

“This war continues to bring unimaginable suffering for women and children. Two mothers are killed every hour in Gaza. Two thirds of the tens of thousands of people killed are women and children. Nearly a million more have been forcibly displaced and left to live amongst the rubble without safe shelter and without enough food or clean water to survive. For the sick and injured, for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, there is virtually no medical help left.”

“To address the urgent humanitarian needs of women in Gaza, we are working with Wefaq Society for Women and Child Care, a local women’s organization that has managed to remain operational, even in this deadly and unstable environment.  Through them, we are providing:

Hot meals from community kitchen
Winter clothes and shoes
Blankets and mattresses
Hygiene kits, and other essential items like menstrual supplies, milk, diapers for babies and food vouchers
Hotlines for trauma informed counseling”

About a year ago I let all my paid partnerships completely go. I haven’t talked about it with you all. Not because of bad blood, or information I learned about their company. These products aren’t “bad” but they are in fact “products”. Haakaa brand, Momcozy, Sarah Wells Pumping and so many others that have asked me to to partner to share ads for them. It’s very tempting to make money this way. I chose to let it all go because it didn’t feel authentic to me. I am a huge proponent that we don’t need systems and corporations to be parents. I am passionate about teaching self sovereignty. As a birth worker my job is to empower mothers and protect this sacred space. By creating ads for multi million dollar corporations, I felt like a sellout. The money and energy exchange that happens within my business is only going to be farm to table baby😘 And that’s how I can sleep at night 😴

World Breastfeeding Week 2024 theme has been announced!

This year's slogan for World Breastfeeding Week has just been announced. Closing the gap: Breastfeeding Support for all. Ensuring there is sufficient support was one of the biggest drivers for setting up this page.

02/02/2024

When preparing to have a baby it’s easy to only focus on a birth plan, and overlook a feeding plan! Just like with a birth plan, this is not rigid. We learn physiology, and about all of our options! So that way we can navigate our own journey feeling informed and empowered📚 There are SO many ways to feed babies. I want you to feel supported in your feeding journey❤️ Link in bio to register for an upcoming class! DM me with any questions😊

Breastfeeding is fun!!!

Birth and breastfeeding require trust ❤️ A deep trust within ourselves, our babies, and our biology. A trust that our society and patriarchy has stripped away from wombmen for profits. When we enter into birth and breastfeeding with doubt, fear, and distrust in ourselves and our children, we are opening a spiritual gate. Our deepest thoughts and feelings will always manifest into our realities. Taking classes and acquiring information is so important, nutrition and movement are important. But nothing is as important as the soul work a mother does preparing for her birth and breastfeeding.

What a whirlwind year for me and my business! It’s like I blinked and the year was here and gone. 365 days full of different experiences with incredible humans. So much learning, growth, and reflection. I am honored to have been invited into these journeys of Matrescence, and trusted with your hearts. The deep desire mothers have to nourish their babies with their own bodies has not been lost on me. It’s a force you can feel radiating from them. I have cried many tears with my clients this year. Tears of joy, tears of sadness, and tears of relief... I feel blessed to be a protector, teacher, and advocate for biological human feeding, and the sacred bond of the motherbaby dyad. 2024 will be a bit different. I feel the pull to shift and pivot as I learn and reflect from 2023. I am trying to lean into living life more cyclically. So, for the rest of winter I’ll continue to be slowwwwwing down and “wintering”. Come Spring, I am excited to announce my new offerings and changes within The Milk Lady Lactation Counseling🌷

Thank you. THANK you. THANK YOU🙏 For all your love and support. This is truly an incredible community.

I hope you all have a good day with family!🦃 Remember that the holidays are notorious for causing a dip in supply, clogged ducts, mastitis, and babies can develop bottle flow preference. This is because moms are pressured to let baby be held by others where they might miss hunger cues and be offered a pacifier. Alternatively, often babies get more bottles during the holidays when mom usually nurses at breast. Moms will often space out pumping sessions, or skip pump sessions because of the hustle and bustle of the holiday. My reminder today and for the rest of the season is to prioritize nursing your baby and/or pumping despite the busyness. Here are key tips🔑

🤫 Find a private quiet space to nurse and/or pump. Consider doing this in the car before going in to the building 🚙

🧣Wear baby on your body in a wrap. Not only does this minimize passing the baby like a hot potato that affects feeding, this also protects against illness and germs.

❌ Stay firm in your boundaries and stick to YOUR and your baby’s preferred feeding style.

😴 No shame in leaving early. You have a new baby that may be over stimulated by the time dinner is over and it’s time for games. Next year it will be easier to stay longer❤️
