When the New Moon Art Gallery opens in September patrons are invited to see a spectacularly beautiful exhibition, "Earth Mysteries".
The two outstanding artists for this show are Leela Francis and Emily Wenner. (Please read the former post introducing Emily Wenner, whose home studio is in Boise, ID)
Leela Francis is a local artist, much loved for her abstractions of nature created by a process of acrylic mixed media and collage. Many also know Leela for her soulful paintings of the human form.
Here are excerpts from the artist's personal statement:
"I use a child-like sense of exploration and wonder to discover the tree characters in each work. I don't plan, I allow the scenes to reveal themselves"
"I use a combination of acrylic paint, painted collage papers, pours and resists. A lot is improvised and spontaneous..."
The exhibition, "Earth Mysteries" features the work of Leela Francis and Emily Wenner through the entire month of September. On First Friday, September 6 from 4-9 pm, the New Moon Art Gallery will hold an artist's reception. Join us on First Friday and meet the artists. You will be delighted by the creative and sublime as you tour the gallery walls.
Introducing Emily Wenner , one of two women featured in Spokane at the New Moon Art Gallery during the month of September.
Emily is an accomplished oil painter from Boise, Idaho. She has shown her paintings nationally and internationally over the past 16 years. Well known for deeply personal stories manifested in her art work, viewers are moved by her sense of connection with creation and the natural world. She uses techniques of the masters by applying many thin layers of oil paints to bring forth sublime imagery. This artist has mastered painting very large and small works as you will see in the upcoming exhibition.
Below is a quote from her Artist Statement:
"The beauty of creation develops out of an enigmatic void...., Creation helps us overcome the darkest, most confining feelings of the mind. The birth of creation comes from taking risk, sensuality"
The exhibition, "Earth Mysteries" features Emily Wenner and local artist Leela Francis . September 6, from 4-9 pm the New Moon Art Gallery will hold a reception. Join us on First Friday and meet the artists! This is a spectacularly beautiful exhibition.
Coming up fast!!
September 6 from 4-9 pm the New Moon Art Gallery will host a First Friday Reception for Leela Francis and Emily Wenner.
We invite you to attend, meet the artists and bathe in the beauty and mystery of their stories.
Signing, sealing, touching up the sides. Leela is checking these off her list for each piece before applying UV protection satin varnish. Completing a series for a show has become a big part of what satisfies her in her art practice. She rarely does one offs anymore. Seeing an idea progress across multiple pieces is so fulfilling for her. This series of 17 pieces, ranging from 12x12 to 30x40, is called “Quantum Arboretum” because its essence is the healing energy of trees. It will show alongside Boise artist, Emily Wenner’s beautiful work and together the show is called “Earth Mysteries”, and will be up at the New Moon Art Gallery the month of September. Opening on First Friday, September 6th. Mark your calendars!

Birds and creatures that fly are a fascination to me. I often dream of flying. My artwork is often themed with moths, birds, and animals caught hovering in the air. Repeated themes in art are an expression of an experience or a desire. It also has to do with something not yet fulfilled. I am grateful to have New Moon Art Gallery as the venue for showing my thoughts, dreams and expressions. Im also fortunate to be part of a collective of talented artists also represented at the New Moon Art Gallery.
Our watercolor show, “Splash” is gracing the gallery walls the month of July. It’s a lovely exhibit, replete with summer time images of flowers & lakes. This very hot weather is here to stay for a while, so a visit to our air conditioned gallery is highly recommended! Carol and Ken will be there today. Stop in and say hi!
