Exited to stab your friends? Fencing begins the first full week of October. Tuesdays and Thursdays. That means the first day is the 8th for those keeping track.

Fencing today will include drills on everything we’ve covered and learning the balestra.

With school canceled today there will be no fencing. We will resume Thursday, weather permitting. The moratorium on on buoting will not apply. Thursday will be bouting so have your challenges ready.

Alright fencers we are going to be working on thrust and lunge with some games today.

These guys have been hit hard by the fires and are trying to recover and get there business up again. They work hard to support fencing in America and are the only place I've found to order half jackets.

ALL FENCERS AND ENTHUSIASTS SHOULD TRY TO ATTEND! This group regularly participates at our annual Saturday with Swords workshop and they LOVE to see new faces. JOIN US SATURDAY!

This Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00PM, Combat Corps will be at Manito Park on 18th and Grand in Spokane, Washington! Come to the duck pond and see what we do, learn about historical combat techniques and how they apply to theatre in the round! Try your hand at some hand to hand and basics of the sword! Ask all your questions and get some answers! All ages welcome, all abilities encouraged! We look forward to seeing you Saturday! This is a 100% free event! Though please have children accompanied by an adult.

Today is the day for Sabre!

Women's Individual sabre fencing is being broadcast on NBCSN today from 1 to 6pm.

The rule for sabre differ slightly from the other two weapons.

- Valid hits are made with the tip, entire front cutting edge and the top back third cutting edge of the sword.
-Target area is everything from the waist up including hands, head, back and neck.
-Like foil, sabre fencers must have right of way to receieve the points during bouts.

7 ahead and Italy has clearly had classical training.

Russia takes the Bronze!

Final point was patience, speed and deliberate placement of the attack.

Let's hand it to Kruse, who lost, but was a completely respectful sport at the end. Go fencers!

Safin is faster, but reckless.

Kruse is cautious, but better at Priortity and much more accurate.

And the USA is in for the final bout for gold!

Today: Men's Individual Foil Fencing will be broadcast on MSNBC the semifinals for the Gold will be broadcast LIVE!

Now, the rules for foil fencing are:
-Valid hits are made with the tip of the weapon and valid target area is the torso as outlined by the fencing jacket. The mask and sleeves are not valid targets.
- A valid hit is made when the fencer lands a hit with the tip in target area and has "Priority" or "Right of Way."
- "Priority" is the first fencer to establish the intention of completing an attack by way of straightening his or her arm and keeping the tip pointed at their opponent. "Priority" can be taken away from one fencer through a successful block, called a parry, then reestablished by a straight arm. (This can get a little tricky to decipher, try to watch the fencers arms as well as their swords during the match tonight!)
- There is no such thing as a simultaneous hit in foil, which means that bouts will never result in a double loss. If there is a tie, bouts continue in segments of overtime until a winner is declared.
- The scoring is exactly like Epee in that bouts are fought to 15 points and advancement is awarded the same.
