Today, we celebrate all the incredible dads out there – fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, and father figures who bring love and support into our lives. At Rays of Hope, we also want to honor the dads who have been affected by breast cancer, whether as patients, survivors, caregivers, or loved ones.

Breast cancer doesn’t just impact women; it affects men and their families too. This Father’s Day let's acknowledge the strength and resilience of all dads who have faced this journey. Your courage inspires us every day.

💖 To all the fathers who have battled breast cancer – you are not alone, and your fight is our fight.

💖 To the caregivers and supporters – thank you for your unwavering support and love.

💖 To everyone missing their fathers today – our hearts are with you.

Let's come together to raise awareness and support for everyone touched by breast cancer. Share your stories, celebrate the dads in your life, and spread the love.

The Promise of Hope

In 1993, Lucy Giuggio Carvalho was diagnosed wtih Stage 1 breast cancer at the age of 38. Feeling overwhelmed and lost about how to proceed with treatment and life during and after breast cancer, her family and friends came together to help her and she realized how important love and support are when facing breast cancer. Wanting to create that same feeling for people in the community, Lucy put together a small committee to form the first Rays of Hope Walk Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer in 1994. At about the same time, Baystate Medical Center’s Comprehensive Breast Center (now the Baystate Breast & Wellness Center) was coming together and Lucy and Dr. Grace Makari-Judson, oncologist and chair of the Baystate Health Breast Network, became a formidable pair. The first Rays of Hope Walk had 500 participants and raised $50,000.

Today, more than 20,000 participants join in the Rays of Hope Walk & Run Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer and have raised over $15.4 million - all of which remains in western Massachusetts supporting the Rays of Hope Center for Breast Cancer Research, patients, survivors, programs and community groups providing complementary therapies such as yoga, water fitness, Dragon Boating, art therapy and more.

Now, more than ever, so many people’s lives have been touched by breast cancer in some way. Rays of Hope brings people together from all walks of life in support of this who have been challenged by breast cancer as a patient or a support person. We have become a family, caring for those in our community and wrapping them in a big pink hug of support.

Keep the promise going. Make the #ROHPinkyPromise to bring awareness and help fundraise to support Rays of Hope then join us on Sunday, October 25, 2020 to walk and run toward the cure of breast cancer. Register or donate today
