Join us November 6th at 2PM as we delve into the lives of the Powhatan Indians before European arrival and differentiate between fact and fiction surrounding the legends of the Powhatan people and the frequently mythologized Pocahontas. This program will be presented virtually by an educator from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Attendees may view it either in-person at the library or at home via Zoom. To celebrate this thrilling tale, Libby is inviting kids ages 12 and under to create their own artwork inspired by the book. Encourage patrons to share their creations (with parent permission or from a parent’s account) on social media using the hashtag on social media from November 7-21 to enter for a chance to win the Adventurer’s Prize Pack! We’ve revamped Make-It Mondays and Try-It Thursdays into Makerspace: Innovation Stations. Unleash your creativity and curiosity with a diverse range of tools and resources, perfect for exploring both artistic and scientific projects! Distinct stations will be offered at each session, allowing participants to register for the station they would like to try. Our makerspace is open to ages 4 and older, but those 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Prior registration is required for all participants, including accompanying adults. Join the Friends of the St. Clair Shores Library for Holiday Crafting! We will be making Christmas Trees, wreaths, and Angels from folded pages of books. Books, supplies and instructions will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Friday, November 15, 10 AM–Noon or 2-4 PM. Registration begins November 4. Storytime sessions are full. We are taking those that would like to be placed on the waitlist.
Storytime registration begins today! The session will run from November 12 through December 4. Space is limited. Registration is available through the online calendar at https://scslibrary.events.mylibrary.digital/search?q=storytime. Children may only be registered for one Storytime and all children that attend must be registered.
There are two all-ages Morning Storytime time slots, Wednesdays at 10:00 or 11:00 AM. There is one all-ages Evening Storytime time slot, Tuesdays at 6:30 PM. Adults must stay with children at all Storytimes.

With the conclusion of our makerspace grant, we’re excited to announce updates to our Makerspace activities. We’ve listened to those eager to use the materials to create your own masterpieces, and now offer the opportunity to book time through our Makerspace Hour.
Patrons can choose from a variety of makerspace tools and equipment to work on their own independent projects or collaborate in small groups in this self-guided program. The makerspace is open to participants aged 4 and up, though children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Advance registration is required and can be completed by one person on behalf of their group. The Youth Services Department of the St. Clair Shores Public Library invites the children of the community to cast their votes in a Book Character Election! Children can vote for their favorite Easy book character from the following choices: Bruce; Clifford the Big Red Dog; Pete the Cat; Pigeon; and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Each child can vote one time between October 28 and November 5. The winner will be announced November 6 on the library’s Facebook. Ballots can be picked up at the Youth Services Desk starting October 28.
Don't worry if you have already used all of your hoopla borrows for the month. hoopla Bonus Borrows will be available October 25-31; where you can borrow anything from the bonus list for free!

Teens, ages 11 to 18 who would like to help the Youth Services librarians prep for programs are invited to a Teen Volunteer Session on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Today's 1st Stop has been changed to a Toddler Drop-In Play. Toys will be available for kids to play with from 10-11. Come have fun and meet new friends.
Join M. L. Liebler, St. Clair Shores Poet Laureate, on October 17th for the monthly Poetry Workshop in the Library Meeting Room. This is a creative writing workshop where participants can share a poem or part of a story with the group and receive constructive comments. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the camaraderie (poems or stories are not required)!
