Who's interested in "Pod'ing"? New toys need to be broken in.

Why are so many bars and fast food restaurants closing?
1- Boomers are on way too many blood thinners
2- X’ers have shifted to 2 “Blanco’s-ice-lime” & an edible over 16 beers & a side of Jamo
3- Millennials have pivoted to 3 seltzers and “flower” vs. 8 beers and a “bomb” (they never quite got there)
4a- Xennials grew up on the one and done 13% hibiscus cherry walnut triple IPA (which should have warned us all the end was near)
4b- Xennials also grew up watching their X parents try to do the 16+ beers & whiskey weekend one last time and were like… Hell No!
5- Gen Z grew up with legal w**d, AND… cell phones that eliminated the need to gather via Snap/Insta, and a level of body shaming via Socials the bulliest of bullies in history never imagined. Don’t believe me? Go see who’s at your local gym.
6- GLP-1 drugs. So you’re obese, AND you don’t want to go to the gym??? Big Pharma to the rescue.

What it’s not?
Higher minimum wages.

Coming up on a year from his death I’ve decided to record some of my thoughts in an attempt to have a fractured dialogue with Dana before releasing his final songs over the next couple of months. Weird, I know, but alternatively the recurring conversations with family, friends, and 2nd degree acquaintances attempting to cope, or understand, or “figure it out” becomes tiresome, and usually results in 2 steps backwards. There are those rare moments with certain people where the dialogue and tone feels as if he’s sitting at the table chomping at the bit, waiting to reply with some smart ass dig, as we call him out for his bu****it past & present. That, for me, feels amazing.

Why am I posting this? Because by no choice of my own, I’m now forced into this club of clueless survivors. And… Therapy is undoubtedly a good thing, and should be at a minimum provided & covered twice a year like those useless dental X-rays… no offense to Dentists.

But!!! Private self reflection can also be incredibly helpful, as long as (IMO) you literally record your own thoughts. Open up voice memos and scream if you have to to get started. But hearing yourself narrate your own thoughts allows you to just listen as opposed to think and talk and dread, which usually results in an emotional train wreck. Just listen to yourself. Sometimes you’re like “Yeah! That’s what I feel.” Other times you’re like “That’s ridiculous. Go get a cup of coffee and chill.” And other times you come up with “peace thoughts” that you can share with others who might really need to hear that YOU are alright too.

Losing someone that was a songwriter provides a unique, sometimes painful, sometimes melancholic experience because you can hear them sing… narrate… entertain… and most importantly, breathe. I have him to thank for that incredible gift.

It doesn’t have to always be awful even though everyone will literally say, “That’s so awful. I’m sorry.” Remember that.

Voice memo. Talk to yourself. Listen. Recover. 👊

About 15 years ago over 100 years of club history between 3 clubs merged. We were joined by some of the architects of that marriage to discuss the how, what, and why’s… as well as the why not!
