Bòn fèt Okap!
Cap-Haïtien was founded on this day 354 years ago! Cap-Haïtien (or "Okap") is a city of great historical significance, and we are honored to call "home" a place that has been in the foreground of so many life-changing opportunities.

Here our team of nearly 100 Haitians is strengthening communities, boosting the local economy, and transforming agricultural practices. Local needs call for local solutions, and we strive to achieve just that.

Monday was , but every day kids need our support to achieve their greatest potential.
The children of Haiti are resilient, smart, and talented. At the same time, 81% of Haitian children are living in food poverty, which impacts their everyday lives and their futures.
Our work to treat and prevent malnutrition is more urgent than ever. As the school year approaches, we are also preparing to supply Haitian schools with our Vita Mamba supplements so fewer children go hungry as they learn and grow.

Meet Chrislarison!

When Chrislarison came to MFK's partner clinic he was severely malnourished, weighing only 15 pounds at 2 years old.

With such a severe case of acute malnutrition, Chrislarison also had a persistent fever and he could not stand or walk. He needed extra time being treated with Medika Mamba and was admitted to the clinic to receive lifesaving care.
Meds & Food for Kids' lifesaving RUTF helped Chrislarison become healthy and vibrant again. After treatment, he could finally walk again and weighed 21 pounds!

From his mother: "I want to tell those who are responsible a big thank you. My son is well now, and when I look at him I am happy. Thank you so much for this gift of life."

It's World Breastfeeding Week, and this year's theme set by is Breastfeeding Support for All.
Worldwide, nearly 50% of newborns are exclusively breastfed, while in Haiti the number is only 39%.

There is a significant need for access to maternal care and support in Haiti. MFK provides mothers at Haitian prenatal clinics with supplemental foods, along with nutrition and breastfeeding support. This program helps prevent child malnutrition, giving the next generation a chance for a future.

Our agriculture team has been hard at work with USAID - US Agency for International Development training Haitian farmers to improve the quality and quantity of their peanut crop yields!

“This program is building local farming capacity and supporting individual families. It is a real tribute to the Haitian farmers and their determination to build a vibrant agricultural sector to provide healthy food to their communities." - Remenson Tenor, Meds & Food for Kids COO

Summer is here, and heat records are breaking daily. This affects food systems all around the world, including in Haiti.

With higher temperatures and drought, crop yields and the availability of nutritious foods quickly decline. In Haiti where malnutrition is already widespread at Emergency levels, this impact on food systems results in even more hunger.

Through MFK's Agricultural Development program, we alleviate these challenges by training Haitian farmers how to preserve their fields and care for their crops. This year, more than 600 farmers are being supported by Meds & Food for Kids!

337 children, from toddlers to teenagers, attend a school in Terrier-Rouge Haiti. In the concrete buildings, these children gather in small classrooms not only to learn, but also to eat.

We deliver our supplemental food Vita Mamba to these students and hundreds more throughout the school year. For many of these children, Vita Mamba is their only source of nutrition each day.

Our school feeding program is an investment in the future. Supporting the nutritional needs of Haitian children helps them learn and stay healthy as they grow into the next generation of leaders. Since MFK created Vita Mamba in 2013, more than 155,000 school children have received the ready-to-use food!

Dèyè mòn, gen mòn... Behind mountains, there are mountains.

Many malnutrition clinics are in remote areas, challenging to access for delivering lifesaving RUTF. We call these areas the Last Mile - clinics far from drivable roads, town centers, and often in mountains.

MFK does not leave these clinics behind. When delivery trucks cannot pass narrow roads, we use a car. When a car cannot drive up a mountain, we even use donkeys to deliver lifesaving treatments to the Last Mile.

We are committed to saving children from malnutrition - even when there are mountains behind mountains.

Meet Eliphet!

Eliphet is a talented farmer who graduated from our training program in 2023. He is now in MFK's Champion Farmers program and works with our agriculture team to continue learning and applying best farming practices.

Eliphet has been farming peanuts and cassava for 20 years and hopes to begin growing vegetables to sell in the local market.
Raised by farmers, Eliphet plans to teach his 4 kids the knowledge and joy of farming and providing for their community.

Thank you Eliphet for making a difference in Haiti's food systems!

When Judeson was one year old, he only weighed half the average weight for babies his age at 13.4 pounds. He had been sick for a few months with malnutrition as well as a fever and protein deficiency.

Our partner clinics treat infants and children like Judeson with Medika Mamba RUTF. Judeson's mother traveled 6 hours by foot, motorcycle, and taxi so we could help her son recover. And we did!
After 9 weeks of Medika Mamba treatment, Judeson's malnutrition symptoms went away as he gained weight and became much healthier.

We are so thankful to be able to commit to saving the lives of children in Haiti, and we continue to fight malnutrition every single day.

Women in Haiti value breastfeeding their children, but due to economic and sociocultural barriers, as well as insufficient breast milk, it can be difficult for mothers to provide enough nutrition for their babies.

To combat the lack of nutrition affecting thousands of infants in Haiti, we continue to produce lifesaving RUTF and support prenatal clinics to supplement pregnant and nursing mothers.
