Welcome to our 2024 summer interns!

This summer, we welcomed four new interns who are working directly with the Christner team to support a variety of projects in our office. They will also be leading a research project to collect information on sustainable building, site, and interiors materials and compile them into a shared library. Our internship program provides students an opportunity for immersion in the working environment of a design firm committed to built work. We are excited for them to spend the summer with us!

Christner donates over 2% of its profits annually to nonprofit groups and engages in office-wide service projects. We are proud to support organizations such as The Women’s Safe House, Laumeier Sculpture Park, Nurses for Newborns and New City School.

We were thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Broughton STEAM Center at Community School. The new center features science classrooms, maker space, a drama classroom and a new wood shop / fabrication lab. Christner has been working with Community School for over 30 years, and we are incredibly proud to have been a part of this project!

On International Women’s Day, we’re spotlighting the amazing women who are integral to our firm’s success. As a in the AEC industry, we understand the benefits that strong women leaders offer our community and profession. Of our professional staff, 63% are female, which far surpasses industry averages. We are proud to embrace gender equity and celebrate the creativity, vision, and innovation of women in design, not only at our firm but also around the world.

Plenty of holiday cheer to go around the office today— because the more lights, glitter, and reindeer, the merrier!

It's a joy to see life in the spaces that we design especially around the holiday season. This week Colombian families gathered at the Brentwood Park Pavilion to celebrate Día de las Velitas, a celebration that kicks off their holiday season.

It was a beautiful day for our annual Christner Chili Cook-Off. Our office enjoyed several chilis, sides, and desserts. A special thanks to our guest judges Ryan Selsor, Emily Miller, Chris Ballard, Pat Guichet, and Kyle Stigler from SSM Health - St. Louis!

We are thrilled to be a part of this STLCC-Wildwood project that will support the college’s mission of expanding minds and changing lives! Congratulations to all involved and looking forward to what the future holds for this community.

We're proud to have been a part of this project at Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, where sustainable strategies are imbedded throughout the design of the site including a 6-acre Tall Grass Prairie restoration.

The landscape expresses the sustainable mission of the institution, creating a setting where science and landscape are continuously placed in complement to each other.

As a , we recognize the importance of creating an inclusive workplace and supporting a diverse profession. Despite the challenges faced by women in the AEC industry, female architects are making a significant impact on the field of architecture and design. We are proud to embrace gender equity and celebrate the talented women at our firm and also the contributions of women around the world.

Today, in addition to celebrating Int’l Women’s Day, we also celebrated Holi by learning about this cultural tradition in Hinduism. Our colleague, Kriti, shared the history of Holi and how it is celebrated. Holi symbolizes the arrival of Spring in India, the end of winter, and the blossoming of love. On the day of Holi, the streets are filled with color and music to celebrate. People throw colored powder in the air and apply it on one another. Special food and drinks are made as everyone comes together!

We are extremely excited to celebrate the completion and upcoming opening of our Southeast Center for Integrated Health Services, the new home for Southeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center, Southeast Women’s Integrated Health and Southeast Breast Health! It was an honor to celebrate Ted Christner’s 90th birthday this past Saturday! Ted founded Theodore Christner & Associates in 1963. Ted was passionate about helping to preserve and enhance our community and its landmarks, and was behind some of the most iconic projects in St. Louis including the Jewel Box restoration, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, and the Butterfly House. His leadership and humble dedication to St. Louis has been a constant thread through the history of the firm. Happy birthday Ted!

We are thrilled to share that the Ball Horticultural Company Helix Central Research and Development Center project has received a Lab Design Excellence Award, Honorable Mention from Lab Manager Magazine. These awards honor excellence in research laboratory design, planning, and construction.

The Ball Helix Innovation Center transforms the research culture and scientific capabilities of Ball Horticultural Company, the world’s largest ornamental seed producer. In alignment with Ball’s corporate culture, the design solution is simple, clear and practical. The project strategically focuses capital expenditures, and it has an intentionally diminished scale. This scale allows the project to integrate it with its landscape and it aligns with the quiet confidence of the Ball Horticultural culture.

2022 Design Excellence Awards Winners Announced Lab Manager proudly announces the winners of its third annual competition

Christner is honored to be a part of an incredible team to deliver the $100 million modernization and expansion of St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Historic Powell Hall. This is the first major renovation project at the historic Grand Center building since it became the SLSO’s permanent home in 1968.

The renovation and 65,000-square-foot expansion will transform the historic 1925 building into a modern venue that enhances the audience and artist experience and fosters community connections. A new state-of-the-art music center, 3,400-square-foot education and learning center, lobby, and backstage space with expanded amenities are included in the expansion. The renovation will improve safety, accessibility and comfort while preserving Powell Hall’s historic character.

We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic cultural institution on this transformative project in the St. Louis community.

So proud to have been part of this important project at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

Pharmacists are trusted members of our health care system and are relied on heavily to support our hospital and care of our young patients. They participate in patient rounds, counsel patients on the safe and appropriate use of their medications and participate in research and clinical trials.

Thanks to YOU, we have been able to relocate the inpatient pharmacy to the ground floor of our hospital, which will include state-of-the-art facilities and greatly increase the size of their working space. Without your help, these improvements and the type of collaborative teams that our patients need to survive and thrive would not be possible. Thank you for supporting our pharmacists every day.

We’re thrilled to be a part of this transformational project in Forest Park. The Steinberg Pavilion and Rink, which opened in 1957, is a regional treasure. The project will convert the ice skating rink complex into an all-season facility for use year-round. We look forward to sharing more with you soon!

‘Tis the season for skating! Steinberg Rink in Forest Park is a St. Louis institution that has become a place for friends and families to gather and create memories. It’s been open for more than 60 years and remains the largest outdoor ice skating rink in the Midwest.

Christner is excited to be a part of Rung for Women's latest project, an addition to their Fox Park Headquarters that will provide much-needed childcare accommodations. This project will boost the number of women Rung can serve to 300 a year, up by 100. Rung plans to break ground in the first quarter of 2022 and open the addition by the end of that year.

Nonprofit Rung Ltd. plans a $5M addition to its headquarters in St. Louis' Fox Park neighborhood - St. Louis Business Journal The 17,000-square-foot, two-story addition would be built to the west of the nonprofit's current complex.

We recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Blessing Surgery Center in Quincy, IL! Moving the surgery center closer to the main campus has been part of Blessing’s strategic plan for many years. The project will provide convenience of affordable outpatient care with the security of being in close proximity to the hospital.
