Meet Yu Han Daisy Wang (she/her), Co-President of Stanford Lion Dance. Daisy said “Joining Stanford Lion Dance has been one of the greatest things I did at Stanford. I joined with no experience, as does most of our team, and I found the loveliest, most welcoming, funniest, kindest, and all around best people. My favourite experience is always when we perform for someone who’s never seen lion dance before, whether that be tiny children, or even white haired elders. It’s such a joy to see their faces light up, and for them to tell us that they really loved our performances.“ Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Emma Su (she/her) and Grace Lee, Co-Chairs of Taiwanese Cultural Society (TCS). Emma and Grace said “TCS has been a place for us to learn more about our heritage and connect with others from similar backgrounds. TCS is not just a VSO, but a family. Our annual Night Market requires an incredible amount of planning but is a wonderful experience for TCS members to bond. It is incredibly rewarding to host such a large event for both the Stanford community and the greater Bay Area.“ Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Divya Nagaraj (she/her), member of Noopur. Divya said “Noopur is such a welcoming community of people. We love to dance together and make incredible memories performing and traveling - all while celebrating an art form that has deep cultural and spiritual significance. Dancing with Noopur this year has been an incredible experience. Everyone brings joy and passion to practice, and choreographing pieces to our own mixes makes the process very special. I couldn’t imagine this past year without the Noopur community. My favorite memory was probably our holiday Secret Santa - all the thoughtful presents and festive joy!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Srivatsan Sridhar (he/him), member of Spicmacay. Srivatsan said “Spicmacay has created an awesome community of Indian classical music lovers on campus! Whether you’re looking for fellow musicians to jam with or just want to attend concerts, get in touch! No commitments required! Organizing concerts and workshops by the best musicians from India has been a rewarding experience! I’m also grateful for the community at Spicmacay that motivated me to keep practicing and become a better musician!”

Meet Milly Wong (she/her), member of Hong Kong Student Association (HKSA). Milly said “HKSA is a wonderful group to join if you are interested in learning about Hong Kong culture. We do regular food gatherings, Cantonese songs karaoke, and Cantonese movie trips! HKSA has been my main channel to know other Hong Kongers, who share similar backgrounds and interests. They made me feel welcomed at Stanford, and that you can still belonged despite being an international student. I also get to know some graduate students too!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Isabel Mercado (she/her), Alumnae Chair and former VP Service of alpha Kappa Delta Phi (aKDPhi). Isabel said “aKDPhi is for anyone who wants to join - whether you’re someone who has never had the chance to explore their Asian identity, someone who has been involved in activism for years or someone who just wants a close-knit, supportive community on campus! We’re constantly evolving as an organization and because we’re on the smaller side, everyone’s voices are heard and valued. I joined aKDPhi because I was looking for an inclusive space that would not only allow me to express and explore my identities as a Filipino-American and Asian-American, but also a space that centers female friendships, service, and leadership. I wasn’t looking to join a sorority when I came into Stanford, but I came out to a day of rush and the active members were so kind! I instantly felt like I could find a home and I haven’t looked back since.

Between getting to know my littles and glittles, study nights and taking classes together, being an RA at the aKDPhi house, cocktail nights, concerts, getting hotpot, karaoke, or hosting a kamayan cooking class, my time with aKDPhi has been filled with a lot of joy and laughter. Overall, being in aKDPhi has been one of the best choices I’ve made at Stanford. It’s been so reassuring to know that whatever I do on campus, whether it be related to academics, internships/careers, or just having fun, I have a built-in network of support!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Lishan Carroll (she/her), AAPI Cultural Education Co-Chair of alpha Kappa Delta Phi (aKDPhi). Lishan said “aKDPhi is an tight-knit community of kind, compassionate, driven, funny, and caring women, and I’m so happy and proud to be a part of it. I joined aKDPhi in the spring of my sophomore year when I was feeling a little lost without dorm community. I also knew I wanted to meet make more female friends, particularly ones who identified similarly to me in some way. I’m so glad I joined! One of my favorite aKDPhi memories was going to convention last summer in Orlando, Florida. It was so fun to meet other aKDPhi chapters and get closer with the other Stanford aKDPhi girls I went with! aKDPhi has given me a fun and meaningful group of women that I know I can depend on. I genuinely admire every single member of aKDPhi and what everything they give to our aKDPhi community and the larger Stanford community :).” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Anh Huynh (she/her), Co-President of Stanford Lion Dance. Anh said said “Stanford Lion Dance is a non-auditioned dance group and you do not need any experience whatsoever to join. Our team ranges from members who have been lion dancing since they were 8 to members who just started 3 months ago. What we value the most is creating a community and a space for everyone to learn more about the culture and history of lion dance in addition to its importance during the holiday season like Lunar New Year. Stanford Lion Dance is a group that is always looking forward to welcoming everyone into our lion dance family!! My all-time favorite memory is coming out of the lions after every performance to see the smiles and cheers of the audience to looking around at my team members and feeling a sense of pride and joy to be a part of such an amazing team. this is especially so when we perform at the elementary schools and just seeing how excited the kids are make me even more excited to perform at 1000% so that everyone will enjoy the performance.” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Judy Liu (she/her), President of Stanford Wushu Club. Judy said “Stanford Wushu is a super great community and great change to learn something new! We welcome all levels, and especially beginners have nothing to fear! Join Stanford Wushu and compete at Wushu tournaments for the first time ever and have loads of fun with weapons, kicks, and forms! My favorite memory with Stanford Wushu is attending the 25th Annual Wushu Collegiates held at UCLA this year. We had so much fun! Tea was spillt, laughs were shared, and at the end of the day, everybody wanted to do more Wushu! Stanford Wushu had been a crucial part of my time at Stanford. Until Stanford Wushu, I wasn’t able to find my own community, but I know that I have made lasting friends here. Interactions are super organic since we’re just together to learn wushu, and we just natural come together. That’s just what sports do!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Caitlynn Tran (she/her), Choreographer of Mua Lac Hong (MLH). Caitlynn said “MLH has always been such a fun and supportive community! We welcome all levels of dance experience (in fact, none required) and hope to explore Vietnamese culture through dance. My favorite memory with MLH is last year’s off-campus performance at Terra Marin for Lunar New Year. It was a great opportunity to bond with my fellow MLH members while sharing our dances with another community!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Mandarava Jamyangling-Kawaguchi (she/her), Freshman Intern of Tibetan Student Union. Mandarava said “TSU is super welcoming, we make great food, and we allow anyone to join, Tibetan or not! I joined TSU because as a military child moving all over the world, I never had the opportunity to meet and connect with Tibetans for a long period of time. I’ve been able to here at Stanford and made great friends within our club!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Amrita Malhotra (she/her), member of Stanford Basmati Raas. Amrita said “Raas is an amazing way to find a community of people who love to dance, but also love to spend time with each other. Coming into this group last year without any dance experience and only knowing one or two people was quite frightening, but I felt so welcomed by every single person on the team and quickly learned that Raas is more than just a dance group - it’s a family. My favorite memory from Raas was traveling to our first competition this quarter in Washington DC! Almost the entire team was able to go, and it was one of the most fun, chaotic, and rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. Traveling across the country together really made us feel more like a family than just a dance group, and that is something I love about Raas - while we are all working hard towards the shared goal of performing and perfecting a dance form, we are also just a group of people who love spending time with each other! I joined Raas to find a community, and the love and support I have found in this group have been more amazing than anything I could have imagined.” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Amesha Banjara (she/her), Marketing Chair of Stanford Basmati Raas. Amesha said “Raas has been one of the most welcoming communities that I have joined this year. Everyone brings such a different personality to the team and the captains/dancers/props members truly make all the work we do worth it. If you’re looking for an automatic friend group on campus, somewhere to learn to dance, or an organization to travel all over the country with…I would recommend joining the team! My favorite memory I have with the team so far has been traveling to Orlando, Florida for a competition. The performance took place on the same day as my birthday and so the team surprised me with my favorite cake which was really sweet. We danced our hearts out that weekend both on stage and at the after party even though we had to go straight from the party to the airport where we were met with chaos after a certain someone lost her IDs and keys… Raas has given me a community in which I have met so many different people that are not only friends, but mentors. Having access to such a talented and smart network of individuals has been so helpful and I am looking forward to continuing the mentorship to the incoming freshmen. I also run into members all the time so it’s great being able to know people all around campus.” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Callista Skye Holleschák, Co-President of Stanford Chinese Dance. Callista said “Stanford Chinese dance has been such an incredible and welcoming community! Through SCD, I’ve made lasting friendships and fulfilled my dream to learn how to dance. Because SCD is open to everyone from all backgrounds and experience levels everyone is super supportive and willing to learn and teach! It has always been my dream to learn how to dance! When I found out about Stanford Chinese Dance at admit weekend and met some of the lovely members, my heart was stolen! From then on, I knew that I wanted to join SCD’s vibrant community and begin my study of the art of Chinese dance!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet David Zhou (he/him), New Member Educator of Lambda Phi Epsilon. David said “Lambdas is Stanford’s only Asian-interest fraternity on campus, and has definitely grown to be my closest circle of friends. We’re often involved with cultural events on campus (recently served KBBQ during the Lunar New Year Festival!), organize bone marrow drives for our national philanthropy, and violence and misconduct prevention efforts. Our fraternity is relatively small but incredibly close, and we frequently do fun things together. Be it going out for food, hosting parties and mixers, raving, playing poker and other games, hitting the gym and playing ball, etc... Lambdas are always looking for ways to grow closer. Because Lambdas are so tightly knit, you can often find people to do things with. Supporting friends’ concerto performances, playing tennis or football, working out, seeking career or class advice, Lambdas has grown to be the default friend group I defer to.

Interested in joining a great group of guys in a cultural fraternity?... rush Lambda Phi Epsilon!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Angeline Yu (she/her), President of Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA). Angeline said “APAMSA is an incredibly tight-knit cultural and pre-professional club—and we truly prioritize both. Our members are like family, and it’s so reassuring knowing that you will always have such a supportive community that has your back through the inherent ups and downs of our difficult pre-professional track. I couldn’t have asked for a more kind, compassionate, and dedicated group of APAMSA members and I have so much hope and confidence in our future medical leaders because of them. I joined APAMSA my freshman year knowing I had passion and love for medicine, and three years later am so grateful that I have such an amazing group of people to share this with. Some of my favorite memories with APAMSA include flying to APAMSA National Conference and exploring Portland, Oregon together, hosting our annual Lunar New Year celebration, mixers with Med School APAMSA, Smores/Asian Snacks Nights, and so much more!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!

Meet Matthew Vilaysack (he/they), Co-President of Lao / Laotian Student Union (LLSU). Matthew said “We are a tight knit community invested in learning more about and raising awareness of Lao culture on campus. In the near future, we’re actually getting a Lao language learning program next quarter (:O)! When I left Minnesota to come to Stanford, I wanted to make sure that I was connecting to my cultural heritage here. Luckily, I had the opportunity to feel connected to my Lao American identity by working at A3C for 2 years and this year, I’m happy that I’m able to do the same as the co-president of LLSU with Cameron. Since there are only about a handful of Lao / Laotian students on campus, I often get feelings of erasure of my Lao roots, but hanging out, cooking Lao food amongst ourselves and sharing it, organizing new programming, and overall creating a sense of community gives me a huge sense of safety and security in my identity. We rock!” Check out to learn more about the VSO!
