Sandra [she/her/ Ella] is a SoCal Latina with Colombian and Honduran roots. She has prioritized her professional career in higher education to support those who do not have access to resources and mentorship as their peers. Sandra strives to identify and address vital intesectionalities in student communities in the current social and political climate. In her free time, Sandra enjoys attending music gigs, going on architecture tours in new cities, and engaging in community events. Please stop by and say hello to Sandra! Student staff members work alongside the professional leadership team during the academic school year and are arranged into committees that work collaboratively to fulfill and promote El Centro’s mission and vision. We are happy to be collaborating with the Stanford Archaeology Center in their exhibit opening celebration! 🌟 Join us Friday, May 31st to celebrate the opening of De la Tierra: Indigenous Ceramics from West Mexico Transcending Time and Space, the newest exhibition of the Stanford University Archaeology Collections. Come to see the new exhibit, hear from the student curators, and enjoy Mexican food and music! 🎶🇲🇽
De la Tierra was curated by students in "Introduction to Museum Practice," taught by Curator and Assistant Director of Collections, Dr. Danielle Raad. The exhibit features two collections: contemporary sculptures from Ocumicho, Michoacán, and pre-contact archaeological ceramics from West Mexico. Themes explored include Indigenous creativity, religious syncretism, identity formation, gender dynamics and authorship, and the ethics of collecting practices.
⭐️ Nominate a Graduating Senior for the Burciaga Award ⭐️ We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2024 Cecilia and Tony Burciaga Community Development Award. This award pays tribute to Cecilia and Jose Antonio Burciaga and honors their numerous contributions to Stanford University and the Chicano/Latino community.
The award recognizes a graduating senior for their level of involvement and motivation in their work within the student and external community. Any member of the Stanford community may nominate a graduating senior by submitting a nomination to El Centro Chicano in the spring quarter of every academic year. The deadline for nominations is Monday, May 27, 2024, at 11:59 PM (PDT).
The award will be presented at Nuestra Graduación, the Chicanx/Latinx Graduation Ceremony, on June 15, 2024. To nominate a deserving graduating senior, please complete the nomination form at this link: https://forms.gle/yyWckVscLVFooBmV9 🎓‼️⭐️❤️
