You are invited to share writing, a song, or a favorite reading at the Hume Center’s annual Family Weekend open mic. Join Stanford students, instructors, and family members for an evening of lively, thoughtful poetry and prose. If you’d rather not read a short piece, come listen! Other family members are welcome to participate, too. Coffee, tea, and desserts are provided. Friday, February 24th, 2023, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm in the Hume Lounge.

If you’re in a time crunch for a paper and are overthinking, set a timer for each section you need to complete. You’ll find that your writing will flow out more efficiently and it’ll help reduce your stress as you come up to the deadline!

In honor of the Hume Center's 20th Anniversary, today we remember "Writing for Wellness." "Writing for Wellness" was an event hosted by Hume to use writing as a form of wellness.

Inspiration is often romanticized, but habit is more dependable. Octavia E. Butler says, "First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice."
