Les Blank is a legendary independent filmmaker known for his award-winning work, including Burden of Dreams, which won the British Academy Award. This month we are celebrating the 80th birthday of His Excellency Ban Ki-moon's, who was the first recipient of the UNAFF Visionary Award. 🏅

Born on June 13, 1944, in Eumseong, South Korea, Ban Ki-moon's journey from a small village to the United Nations embodies his unwavering commitment to bettering humanity and fighting for human rights. As the eighth UN Secretary-General, he launched the Sustainable Development Goals and spearheaded the historic Paris Agreement, significantly advancing global efforts against climate change. His initiatives for human rights and gender equality, including UN Women, "UNiTE to End Violence Against Women," and "Every Woman Every Child," have profoundly impacted global advocacy. Recently honored with the prestigious Harmony Award by His Majesty King Charles, Ban Ki-moon's dedication to humanitarian causes and his ability to navigate complex international relations have earned him respect and admiration worldwide.

This powerful documentary traces the rise of Evangelical Christianity and its influence on leaders like Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro. It maps the movement's impact on society and politics globally.

The film, created by the prolific French documentary filmmaker Thomas Johnson with the participation of Philippe Gonzalez, co-author and specialist in evangelical Protestantism, is a significant contribution to the world of documentary filmmaking. Artline Films Paris, a documentary film production company since 1986, is based in Paris, so screening this documentary in Paris is symbolic.

We are thrilled to have the 18th UNAFF Traveling Film Festival New York again at the UN! As a part of the XXIII Infopoverty World Conference, we presented the UNAFF2023 documentary LIGHT.

LIGHT, directed by the Canadian filmmaker and committed conservationist Nicole Watson and produced by Kenyan filmmaker Beryl Omondi, captures the transformative effects of solar technology on education in Northern Kenya. Journey through this remote region and witness the powerful impact of portable solar lights on students’ lives. Directed over four years of extensive research and heartfelt effort, this film explores the stark realities of electricity inequality and the resilience of communities living off-grid.

Also, UNAFF’s Founder & Executive Director, Jasmina Bojic, discussed the theme for the 27th UNAFF, ‘SHARED HUMANITY’, highlighting our collective fate and the challenges and opportunities that shape it.

UNAFF was founded in 1998 by Stanford educator and film critic Jasmina Bojic to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
