From selling small batch Indian spices out of a New York apartment, to a multi-generational top-rated Indian restaurant, Café Spice has always been about bringing authentic Indian flavors to your table. Now, their ready-made dishes mean you don’t have to sacrifice flavor when you crave convenience. Swipe through to learn their story from Co-founder & CEO, Sameer Malhotra.

Slide 1: From left, Hari Nayak (Culinary Director), Sushil Malhotra (Founder), Sameer Malhotra (Co-founder & CEO)
“My dad, Sushil, was an engineer by training. He came to the U.S. to go to school but always wanted to be an entrepreneur. His father had a contact to get some spices from India so they would bring them in, package them and sell them on the weekends. So that was the first step.”

Slides 2 and 3: “This is my mother, Lata, and father in 1977 at the opening of my father’s first restaurant, Akbar, in New York. It was one of the first fine dining Indian restaurants to open in New York. Early articles about my dad talk about him as a pioneer of Indian restaurants. Akbar opening was a big move that brought the family into the food business.”

Slide 4: “This is myself and Virgilio, our Chief Operating Officer, at the groundbreaking of our new manufacturing facility. My greatest success is seeing the Café Spice brand in every major city around the U.S. Anytime I go into a supermarket and see our product there, it shows me what we have been able to achieve. It’s still the same restaurant recipes but now we supply these grab-and-go meals around every major city.”

Two dynamic women, one shared vision: to redefine the beverage industry. 💪✨ Jen and Cristina, best friends turned Founders of Swoon , are whipping up zero-sugar, naturally sweetened drinks with a story in every sip. As we raise our zero-sugar drinks to their journey, we also dive into the story behind the beverage, where friendship is sweeter than soda. 💖 Find your favorite SWOON flavor at our stores, starting early April.

“Our mission is to make people happier and healthier one drink at a time.

We met in business school and knew immediately we wanted to do something big together. We are both Type A personalities, but Jen is also a Type 1 diabetic (see frame 3), who could never seem to find zero-sugar beverages that tasted good or were enjoyable to drink. So…we decided to work together to tackle the beverage industry. Fast forward to SWOON: the best-tasting, zero-sugar, naturally sweetened drinks around!

At first, advisors warned us about going into business together since we were already friends. There are countless stories of friendships soured due to conflicting goals and visions. We have found just the opposite! The foundation of friendship made it very easy to trust each other to divide and conquer on the many consequential decisions we make a day.

We always joke with our partners when they say we under promise and over deliver that they need to invest in or work with more female-founded brands! We believe that as female founders we can bring new, differentiated options to the beverage aisle that speak to customers who otherwise have not been as directly spoken to by other brands and products.

There really are so many ups and downs and we feel them all deeply. There’s nothing quite as thrilling for us as hearing from customers who are superfans and the joy of building an all-star team. When customers tell us that they have kicked a sugary drink habit because of SWOON…we know we are making the difference that we set out to make every day.”

For bwoodcooks every Easter involved an egg hunt at his aunt's house and his mom was responsible for making the deviled eggs.

Now that he's responsible for a dish this year, he called his mom to ask for her deviled eggs recipe that she would make every Easter. Where'd she say to grab all the goods to make this delicious dish?! Kroger!! 🛒🐰

Instructions to make this amazing recipe are below.

Place 6 eggs in a pot and boil for 14 minutes, then sit in ice water to cool. Grab a skillet for your shrimp and season with 1 tsp garlic powder, cajun seasoning, and pepper. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Crack eggs, cut in half, take yolk out, and place in a bowl. Add 3 tbsp mayonnaise, 1 tsp Dijon mustard, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper to taste, and paprika for garnish. Mix well, add mixture in eggs, top with shrimp, and the rest is history.
