What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (includes Acupuncture) is over 3,500 years old. It is one of the oldest, most commonly used systems of healing in the world.

Traditional Chinese medicine holds that 20 pathways connect as many as 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body (12 primary and 8 secondary called meridians. These meridians conduct energy or qi (pronounced "chi") between the body's surface and internal organs. Each point has a different effect on the qi that passes through it. Qi is believed to help regulate balance in the body. It is influenced by the opposing forces of yin and yang, representing positive and negative energy in the universe and the human body.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a modality used within Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is based on the premise that a blockage or disturbance in the flow of the body's life energy, or "qi," can cause health issues. Acupuncture keeps the balance between yin and yang, thus allowing for the normal flow of qi and restoring health to the mind and

How effective is Acupuncture?
Many patients seek help from an acupuncturist as a last resort. They've seen different doctors, specialists. They have tried different types of treatments and lost hope. By this time, their symptoms may have been present anywhere between 6 months to several decades. At this point, their condition is clinically considered "chronic."

Acupuncture isn't a magic pill. There are times when it can produce almost miraculous results - However, that is not always the case. Chronic conditions that develop for an extended time cannot be resolved in one to two sessions.

Acupuncture works cumulatively - just like weight training or boxing. The amount and length of treatments vary from patient-to-patient.

What are the signs that Acupuncture is working?
Overall feeling of better health. Less stress. Better sleep and digestion. A much clearer and focused mind More energy. Calmer.

Are your needles disposable?
Yes, they are!

What will happen during the first visit?
During your first visit you will learn if acupuncture is an appropriate treatment for your condition. A specific number of treatments will be recommended to serve as a trial to determine if your case will respond to acupuncture. You will also have a clear understanding of ways to assess your progress and when to expect results.
Please arrive 15 minutes early. This will allow time to complete the required paperwork. There is an initial interview by the acupuncturist to establish a committed treatment plan and patient health goals. Once the diagnosis has been made, the appropriate Acupuncture treatment with additional therapies will be administered.

Sterile needles are inserted. After administering the needles, you will rest with them for 45 minutes. Once they are removed and discarded, you will rest for a few minutes. It is best to take it easy for the next couple of hours after a treatment. Depending on your condition and treatment schedule, follow-up visits will be recommended.

Is it painful?
Unlike hypodermic needles, acupuncture needles are solid and hair-thin, and they are not designed to cut the skin. They are also inserted to much more shallow levels than hypodermic needles, generally no more than a half-inch to an inch depending on the type of treatment being delivered. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of pain as the needles are inserted. Some people reportedly feel a sensation of excitement, while others feel relaxed.
As a system of health-care, acupuncture already has some inherent safeguards. Because the treatment is drug-free, patients do not have to worry about taking several doses of a medication or suffering a possible adverse reaction. Properly administered, acupuncture does no harm.
How many treatments do I need to get results?
Results vary depending on the conditions being treated. Even after a few treatments there is improvement in underlying conditions. As a general rule 8-10 treatments are needed to see results in chronic conditions. In a study by Brad W: 85% saw results, 5% no results, 10% varies

How often do I need to get treated?
A schedule of treatments will be recommended to get the fastest The frequency varies by the case. As patients are feeling better, they are expected to increase the time between visits. This process is continued until there is no longer a need for treatment or until maximum improvement is realized.
There are three standard levels of care in Acupuncture - each with its treatment frequency. Your acupuncturist will first figure out where you are on this spectrum and then develop a customized treatment plan for you.

Acute care
Acute care focuses - mainly dealing with more current conditions or shorter-term care. A few examples would be sprained ankle, morning sickness. You have flare-ups from a chronic condition or a condition that was in remission. You have been dealing with symptoms for a long time, and you are new to Acupuncture.
In this phase, your treatment plan is more often, being one toYou can expect to come in for Acupuncture at least twice per week.

Transitional care
Your symptoms have improved to the point that you've met your health goals.
In the transitional care phase, your appointments are scheduled further out - but not so far that the symptoms return. Please remember your body is still in the healing stages.

Maintenance care
Maintenance care is continued care when you go between appointments before your body is out of balance and illness returns. Some patients' maintenance care might be monthly treatments; others might need treatments every two to three months to feel great. It can be compared to car tune-ups or oil changes. In the long run, acupuncture treatments will save you money, time, energy, and pain.

Do you offer reduced rate or sliding scale appointments?
Yes, we offer reduced rates with purchased packages. Sliding scale appointments are not offered.
