Boquete, Panama

We fell in love with this area of Panama. The people are so friendly, the views are stunning, the weather is mild and it is an hour from the ocean. There is a central downtown area, a weekly market to buy fresh vegetables and fruit, and a nice mix of ex-pats and Panamanian people.

The closest large city is David, the second largest city in Panama, and this is just a 25 minute drive down the mountain. There are microclimates between these two cities and in the surrounding area. David is hot with much less rain than Boquete. Every 5 minute drive between the two cities offers enough change in elevation to effect the weather…. The higher up you go the cooler it is. No air conditioning is needed in Boquete - no heater either. The weather is mild year round with temps in the high 70s during the day and mid-60s at night. It is absolutely gorgeous.

We hope to return for another visit next year to look further into the community and seek out retreat options.

Our group has lunch with several American expats who have made a life in Panama. We have been eating wonderful food and enjoying the stories every one has to share about their experiences moving here.

So far it seems like a consensus that Boquete will be the ideal location for our future plans, but we will not arrive there for several more days.

So far Panama is full of warm people and fascinating history. Panama City is a bustling city that reminds me a bit of Chicago Lakeshore Drive area and Manahattan. This is definitely not the city where we will plan our future, but it is great to be here and see what it has to offer!
