Students (including the two pictured here) enrolled in the 100 Black Men of Syracuse’s Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) were treated first-hand to a history lesson of a different sort during a recent field trip to Green Lakes State Park. During their visit, the students utilized their artistic skills inspired by the scenery along the park’s numerous walking trails and the two glacial lakes surrounded by an upland forest that they learned can be traced back to the end of the last ice age, about 15,000 years ago. Images from the students’ trip are posted online at https://photos.app.goo.gl/McMb1KFev5CZKjXA8. 100 Black Men of Syracuse welcomed and hosted 31 students from the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem at a dinner held this week in Syracuse at the-Golden Corral Buffet & Grill. The students, enrolled at the New York City-based school, were in town as part of a college tour organized by the school. In addition to the 100, the students heard from former family court magistrate Jawwaad Rasheed, currently chief accountability officer of the Syracuse Police Department, who provided information about preparing for college. Dexter Green, career services advisor for On Point for College, also discussed the college support services offered by the Syracuse-based, non-profit agency.
