Innovative Change Makers is partnering with Joon Care to offer FREE therapy for youth and young adults ages 13-21!

As we navigate hardships, traumas, and life's obstacles, it is crucial to create space for our youth to be heard and build a strong foundation.

We aim to eliminate the stigmas around therapy and seeking professional assistance. Remember, you are not crazy, you are not damaged, you are not alone.

June 7th we hosted an unforgettable evening at the People's Center for our Paint & Vibes Teen Late Night Edition! Our youth had a unique opportunity to channel their creativity with guidance from the talented , while enjoying the comedic hosting of BoeBlast and grooving to tunes by DJ2X. The event was not only a fun-filled night with food, games, and prizes but also a meaningful experience as we dove into important conversations on mental health, self-care, and self-reflection. Through art, our teens explored and express their inner selves, gaining valuable skills in emotional expression and self-awareness!

Grateful for our partnership with Metro Parks and The People Center’s collaboration in our mission to serve the youth. Together, we’re making a positive impact!

Reflecting on my journey, the obstacles conquered, and the transformation witnessed, I can’t help but acknowledge the goodness of God. Today marks another year of purpose, passion, and profound gratitude for the divine favor in my life.

Evolving from a “Convict” to now leading this Organization and being sought after as a guide for youth to envision a brighter future, is the ultimate blessing.

Grateful for the new friendships and extended family this year has brought, sharing similar goals and aspirations makes the seemingly unattainable more achievable.

“Tuesday November 28th, 2023 was Brian Gatewood’s One Year Anniversary at the Tacoma Urban League! Throughout this year Brian has and continues to dedicate his time to our youth through the Male Involvement Program (MIP). Brian mentors a total of 80 Young Kings every week and works out of four schools; Gray Middle School, Lister Elementary, Stewart Middle School, and First Creek Middle School. He shows up for the youth with a smiling face every single day and gets smiles back with daily greetings that sound a lot like, “Mr. B!!!!!!!! Mr B is here!!!”

Brian incentivizes good grades, does weekly activities with the youth, and helps mediate any disputes they may come across. He talks to the youth about important topics such as respect, leadership, how to make healthy choices, and what it means to work through our emotions. He checks in with each student and creates a safe space for these Young Kings to authentically be themselves.

Brian is a gift to our community and his devotion to the success of our youth is truly inspiring.

PROJECT WELLNESS!

ICM & SHY Hot yoga studios bring you Project Wellness! We will be at Shy studios Tacoma this upcoming Sunday the 15th 5pm-6:30 for Student Athletes to come together and listen to a professional provider speak about how to decompress, address stresses and how to maximize their potential. While they’re listening, they’ll be actively doing hot yoga.
It’s will be an experience that leaves them inspired and feeling good.

Innovative Change Makers will be partnering with TUL & Department of Fish and Wildlife this Friday evening for our Bat Activity! 🦇

We will be out with dedicated scientists learning about multiple species and their adaptations, behaviors, feeding, fun facts and safety.

We aim to share useful information about local bats and create an experience to engage in community sciences. This opportunity can change perceptions about bats and increase interest while teaching community to observe local species and contribute data to researchers.

Today we want to highlight ICM’s own ! Currently working with youth on Electric Home Monitoring to ensure they have the tools for a successful future. The kids love and respect him, following his mentorship and heeding his advice.
Greg is a true Changemaker that has dedicated his life to being the change and utilizing his own lived experience and knowledge to assist in navigating the next generation! It is truly an honor to have him on the team!

TODAY is the final day to register your Students for the FREE Youth Empowerment Sessions Financial Literacy Class, Facilitated by ICM Director Ade Priester.

Classes will be every Thursday 1pm - 3pm at the People Center.
