Gretchen Yanover Electric Cello Concert

Cellist Gretchen Yanover wears two musical hats: one as a composer, primarily for her electric cello with looping pedal—and one as a classical cellist. Gretchen went through Seattle public schools, falling in love with the cello's deep sound in 6th grade. She pursued performance and music education at the University of Washington, embracing an interwoven path of teaching and performing. Ms Yanover guided students in music for 17 years, while at the same time growing her own solo performing career.

🌟 Experience the vibrant and captivating sounds of Ligeti’s Concert Românesc at our November 2 & 3 concerts! 🎶✨

Bachtrack.com praises this piece, performed by the NY Philharmonic, saying: “The Concert Românesc is a more substantial piece in four short, continuous movements. Imagine Aaron Copland in Romania rather than America to get an idea of the musical language. The first movement features the same kind of yearning, unresolved folk-influenced melodies, while the second and fourth have a dancelike energy that (geographically unsurprisingly) recalls the more upbeat sections of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies. The third features a pair of horn solos with certain notes of the overtone series deliberately left untuned to evoke the sound of the Alpenhorn. One of them is supposed to be placed offstage to sound like an echo, which did not seem to have been the case here.”

Don’t miss this chance to witness Ligeti’s mesmerizing work live! 🎻✨

Did you know? J.S. Bach was once imprisoned for trying to quit his job! 😲🚔 Talk about being a prisoner to your passion! 😂

Bach had a strong personality and was not afraid to stand up for himself. In 1717, he was briefly imprisoned by Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Weimar for attempting to leave his position as court organist and concertmaster without the Duke’s permission. Bach’s imprisonment lasted nearly a month.
