WHAT SKILL ARE YOU WORKING ON? ⤵️

One of the coolest aspects of CrossFit, is that there’s always another skill to conquer. Achieving the ability to do a new skill, and do it well, takes an intentional effort from an athlete. Sometimes that looks like staying after class to get a few more reps in. Other times it takes looking up a YouTube video to study a movement. For some, that’s enough for the new skill to click. For others, the best answer might be working 1-ON-1 with a coach. If that’s you, then reach out through DMs or TALK TO ONE OF OUR COACHES!

PROPER PUSH JERK RECEIVE POSITION ⤵️

Knees over toes, butt back, upper back extension, torso slightly leaned forward, bar stacked over upper back. These are the things we are looking for when we receive a push jerk overhead. We will be spending a lot of time working on this positioning throughout our current lifting cycle.

Who’s ready to get after it on July 4th?! We will not have our regular classes on Thursday or Friday, but we will run 2 heats of this workout from 8-10am in honor of Independence Day! This workout was created by Chadd Wright, an ex-Navy Seal, to test combat readiness.

We are excited to announce our first iteration of the 7-day programming rotation! This means that Monday one week, will end up being the Wednesday on the following week! Here are a few things about this new rotation, that we’re stoked about…

1️⃣For the push jerk… DON’T dead stop on your shoulders each rep. Go with the bar as it descends to shoulders, think domino effect.
2️⃣ For the box jump overs… stay low to the box and step down. No need to waste time and energy landing high on the box or standing up on top.

Dave has been with us for about a year now and has seen significant growth in his overall health! Dave would be the first to tell you, that his energy & strength levels have skyrocketed since he started, leading to a greater quality of life and making him more effective at his job as a handyman.
WHY BLOCK CLEANS?
•
This cycle we are attacking block cleans from just above the knee. Yesterday we set a 4 rep max to begin the cycle. There are two specific reasons why this lift is important.
•
1️⃣By cutting the pull in half & starting at a dead stop, it forces you to accelerate the bar more rapidly. This helps you develop a stronger second & third pull in the clean.
2️⃣By setting up above the knee, it helps us reinforce proper body positioning at the above knee position. This is a common spot to mess up on position while performing a full clean.

GETTING BETTER AT PULL-UPS WITH NEGATIVES 🧠

FIXING YOUR SHOULDER POSITION IN YOUR CLEAN/SN**CH

One common error that coaches have been seeing during the OLY lifts at the gym is “shoulders rising to fast.” This leaves shoulders behind the bar as the bar crosses the knees. Watch Coach Garrett correct Coach Cole’s positioning. “Shoulders over the bar” is what we want to see from all of our athletes.
