A look back to a previous exhibit, “Immigration: Hopes Realized, Dreams Derailed” which opened 7 years ago in July 2017 at the former, 950 Spaceworks Gallery. Curated by art critic Susan N. Platt and mural artist David Long, the exhibit addressed the urgent issue of immigration from multiple perspectives by presenting intense work by undocumented immigrants, former detainees, current detainees, DACAs (Delayed Action for Childhood arrivals), college students, grass roots activists, self- taught artists and professional artists.

On June 7th we held our annual fundraiser, CACHET, at the historic , the signature bright pink building located by the Tacoma Dome.

The night was filled with color, Tacoma pride, creative cocktail outfits, and of course, much art. Attendees were welcomed into the venue by an extraordinary display of decor provided by Tin Can Alley. Once you made your way past the table of goodness and the luxurious graze of food provided by , guests were able to check out the ‘Off the Wall’ exhibit filled with canvasses of original art provided by Spaceworks alumni. Each piece of art was hand painted by the respective artist and had one criterion: the art had to reflect Downtown Tacoma.

Emcees, Chris Staudinger of and auctioneer , kept the audience engaged with many laughs and interesting Tacoma knowledge throughout the night.

This year’s CACHET was truly one for the books! Thanks to the incredible generosity of the donors and the dedication of the volunteers, we’ve made another year possible of Woolworth Window installations, murals, and invaluable business training and support. Together, we’re making a real impact in the support of small businesses and paid artist opportunities. We love you, Tacoma!! ❤️

🎉 ArtsWA is pleased to announce the first ever Tribal Arts Grants. The grant is a pilot project to support Tribal communities as they expand, enhance, or create space for art and culture that is respectful and responsive to each community’s needs.

20 Washington State federally recognized Tribes applied for and were awarded the funding. 👏🏽 The application was not competitive and focused on supporting culture, language, arts, artists, and the passing of ancestral knowledge.

The Tribal Cultural Affairs program is honored to support Washington Tribes and is looking forward to providing assistance to every project in a respectful and appropriate way. We, at ArtsWA, are excited and anticipating completion of the projects.
