American Military Families- Action Network goal.for this program is to deliver innovative STEM & STEAM learning opportunities to children of Active duty service membere and the children of veteran in grades 5-8 . We have received an ARTsWA grants and collaborated with a Scouting Council (Boy & Girl Scouts) located in WA State to deliver this program
The SEAPERCH program is an innovative educational program that provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) while building an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Participants work with kits that contain the materials and instructions needed to build their own ROV, which they then test and modify to improve its performance.
Key aspects of the SeaPerch program include:
1. **Hands-On Learning:** Students engage in practical, hands-on activities that help them understand the principles of buoyancy, propulsion, and submarine design.
2. **Teamwork:** Participants often work in teams, promoting collaboration and problem-solving skills.
3. **Competitions:** Many schools and organizations that participate in SeaPerch hold competitions where students can test their ROVs in various challenges, such as navigating obstacle courses or retrieving objects underwater.
4. **STEM Education:** The program aligns with educational standards and aims to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Title: Empowering Students Through STEM Exploration with SeaPerch
Introduction: In today's rapidly evolving world, fostering a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is crucial. One innovative initiative making waves in this regard is the SeaPerch program. Aimed at students of all backgrounds and interests, SeaPerch offers a hands-on opportunity to dive into the realms of underwater robotics and engineering.
Engagement with STEM: At its core, SeaPerch serves as a catalyst for igniting curiosity and nurturing critical thinking skills among students. By immersing themselves in the construction and operation of underwater robots, participants not only gain practical knowledge but also develop a deeper appreciation for the STEM disciplines. Through guided activities and challenges, students are encouraged to apply scientific concepts, problem-solving strategies, and engineering principles in real-world contexts.
Collaborative Learning Environment: Central to the success of SeaPerch is its emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Students work together in groups, pooling their unique perspectives and skills to tackle complex tasks. This collaborative learning environment not only fosters camaraderie but also instills essential communication and leadership abilities—qualities that are invaluable in both academic and professional settings.

OVERVIEW - HISTORY AND NEED
“Stand Down” is military terminology that refers to the brief period of time a service member leaves an active combat area in order to rest and regain strength. This event offers Veterans who are homeless, unhoused or at risk for homelessness a chance to rest from the weariness of life’s challenges they face daily.
The American Military Families/Action Network (USAVET.org ) has helped to foster an environment of uplifting growth and opportunities in the veteran population since its formation as a national nonprofit organization in 2012. American Military Families - Action Network is just that, a cadre of veterans across the United States that have formed a large network to deliver
immediate impacting results to large scale issues, facing the veteran and military families community.
This years Stand Down Event will be held as the nation faces uncertain times, due to the after - effects of the COVID 19 pandemic, combined with various other economic pressures and uncertainties . The 2023 Stand Down, is set to serve more veterans and their families than our previous 2 stand downs combined. Currently there seems to be an over saturation of homeless individuals living in tents, lying on the streets, cold and hungry. A precise count is almost impossible to make, yet, according to estimates, nation wide over 40,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.
● Veterans account for 17.5% of homeless adults in the U.S. leading causes of homelessness among vets maybe linked to various issues including PTSD, mental health, social isolation, unemployment, and substance abuse.
● As of January 2022, Washington State had an estimated 25,211 persons experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by 2022 Continuum of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Of that Total, 2,116 were family households, 1,569 were Veterans, 1,802 were unaccompanied young adults (aged 18-24), and 8,443 were individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
