At the University of Puget Sound School of Music we are excited to announce our inaugural Brass Day! Please help spread the word. This is an opportunity geared toward high school students and advanced middle school students (younger and less experienced students are also welcome to register and watch). Our concert will be free and open to the public. Save the date: November 17th, 2024. Puget Sound brass faculty, featured artist Sarah Viens of the Pacific NW Ballet Orchestra and the Pacific Coast Brass Ensemble will be the artists.

Come to Schneebeck Concert Hall next Friday, October 27th at 7:30pm for the next Jacobsen Series performance, “Euphony: An Evening of Low Brass Sounds”! This event features the SymbiosisDuo members Gail Robertson and Stacy Baker, euphonium/tuba; with Ryan Schultz, tuba; David Krosschell, bass trombone; Ilan Morgenstern, bass trombone; and Jason Gilliam, euphonium. You won’t want to miss this!

Tickets for the general public are available to purchase online at tickets.pugetsound.edu, at the Puget Sound bookstore, or at the door. The performance is free for current Puget Sound and K-12 students. You may obtain a complimentary ticket online or bring your student ID to show at the door.

Facilities Services will be doing maintenance work to 15th Street between N. Alder & N. Lawrence, consisting of road resurfacing and curb work. The work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, and is scheduled to be completed by Monday, July 10 (weather permitting).

15th Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic during this window. Please inform your vendors, staff, and visitors who may be impacted by this project.

Please join us for a masterclass with tubist and composer Jon Hill. Jon will be joined by Affiliate Artist Ryan Schultz and Stadium High School band director Justin Ehli '10.

Jon is a composer and studio musician based in New York. On tuba, he has appeared and recorded with the Seattle Symphony, New York City Ballet, the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, and performed on dozens of film and video game scores including The Greatest Showman, The Last Stand, I Love You Beth Cooper, Bunraku, Halo: Reach, and Destiny: Rise of Iron. On sousaphone, he has performed with Macklemore, K.Flay, Odesza, and Tubaluba.

Most recently, he co-wrote the song 'Aint Gonna Die Tonight' with Macklemore, the opening track on Gemini, which was featured in Lego:Ninjago and was the theme of the 2017 MLB World Series. He draws on his experience in a wide array of genres to craft distinctive and immersive scores for films and video games. His first feature film score, As Far As The Eye Can See, premiered at the Montreal Film Festival, won Best Texas Film at the Lonestar Film Festival, and is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Jono studied at The Juilliard School and Yale University.

The MTNA Connection
Jon is a Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) National brass solo competition winner, Justin, as a freshman in Ryan Schultz' studio at Puget Sound was a MTNA national finalist, and Ryan has been an adjudicator for MTNA, taught a national prize winner and currently has two more students in the finals. Those two students will be playing in this class: our own William Lum and a Community Music student.
