You've heard all the words:
Now is the time to stop and do it. Practice. And practice some more. C'mon, you know you're trainable (remember that 5k or that Ironman or that golf game that you improved?)

If you’re anything like me...
..I have to be diligent with my self care this time of year. My mental health. My rest. My ability to be social.
You see, even though the lights and the packages and the candles and the gatherings all say “Joy is here!”...
...my mind and body say differently. It can be easy to dwell on the shortening of the days and hours of darkness.
I hope you will consider joining me for 30 mins on Friday. We will honor the dark season of the year, and the dark season within us.
LIVE on YouTube/Take a Balance Break or DM me for Zoom details.
Join me this Thursday for the deep work, Breathwork Meditation. People often say they can't meditate. I say you haven't tried the form that works for you...the one that gets you into the "state" of meditation. This is the best way I know, and if you're practiced in other forms, you'll be surprised just how "deep" you will go!
5:30 pmET, Thu 12/10. $20 for live class and/or the recording (available for 72 hours after the session).

If you practice differently, you'll become different.

Breathwork, the manipulation of your own breathing pattern, has been utilized by many cultures to access a deep state of quiet and calm; meditation. Once in this state your mind (your frontal lobe) seems less chatty and controlling, so you are able to feel and "hear" what else is going on in your body. Holding stress? Old wounds need healing? Carrying a burden? This can all be FELT in your body. Hold still. Breath. See what happens.
Come for the altered state. Stay for the healing.

"Altered state" breathing allows you to get into a non-normal (for you...) state of consciousness. Once in this state, your mind will quiet (you know, that frontal lobe brain that keeps talking to you and running your day?) and you will "feel" different. And you'll feel differently. Your attention goes to other parts of your body. Perhaps you'll spend time feeling something in your physical body, perhaps in your emotions.
And maybe, just maybe, you will learn something about yourself.
Come for the altered state. Stay for the healing.

Begin your day with calm. Start with with basics. Continue to train each day. Just 15-20 each weekday morning.
Harry Smith was perhaps one of the greatest men with whom I never spent much time.
In 1990 I was contemplating a move to Tampa. It may have been a bit of a whim, so I got on the phone and started reaching out to people. I didn't know South Tampa from North Tampa, old school from contemporary, training facilities from fitness centers. I just needed information. Harry was very willing to give that. And he offered a lot of opinion along the way. He even offered to pick me up at the airport, show me around, and find me a place to stay if I came for a visit.
As a 20-something woman who did not know a soul in Tampa, I had no way of determining the creepiness factor from "the old guy". I erred on the side of caution and did not take him up on the offer.
When I moved to Tampa I stopped by one day. Choosing new, bright lights, and fancy outfits over used, chipped, and dusty, Harry's gym was not where I landed. Yet I enjoyed sitting there chatting with him. His space, his stories, the aroma, and the ambiance smacked of the places I began a career in "fitness". Back before women and girls were really allowed in the places. Back when they were telling us we really shouldn't be doing that kind of work (back when we had jiggly belts and rollers and silly stuff).
His place was 1970's to me and I need a big move into a new decade.
Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have done anything differently; I still would err on the side of safety. That said, I have regretted and will continue to miss the time I did not give to this old-school gentleman.
Tampa fitness enthusiasts remember beloved gym owner Harry Smith The wrestler and fitness guru died at 95 at Tampa’s Tahitian Inn on Saturday night.
Summer is "officially" over, and it's time to get back to our regular schedules. What does that mean in 2020? Maybe it's time to get back to our new and improved schedule of care.
Breathwork Meditation allows you a session of conscious deliberate deep breathing. A bit of "out with the old and in with the new". It allows you to calm not only your body but also the chatter in your mind (you know...the chatter that won't stop, the chatter that keeps telling you you're something other than you desire, the chatter that seems to rule the show).
Take a time out. Let your body and your mind experience something...different.
Until it is safe to meet again as a group, we will continue the sessions virtually.
Come for the altered state. Stay for the healing.
